hi all,
tomorrow we are starting the school year with the timetables generated with FET 5.6.2 (I didn't use the last version because I didn't want to show the not-available crosses -x-

The timetables have come up 100% normative compliant and 98% teachers' wishes respected. It was a very difficult timetable with many subjects with different teachers and groups, and space constraints, etc

Thanks very much for your work and for sharing it.

Suggestions / space constraints
October 02, 2009, 07:12:57 PM
hello all,
some of you may know about my battle with assigning classrooms with FET. Many times, due to our school system, we must have 2 teachers with the same group in different classrooms. Well, I have -more or less- found a way to solve that, but I still have some difficulties to modify classrooms once the timetable is generated and blocked.

During the first month, teachers usually come and say: can I change this classroom? I'd like to go to computer room once a week, I'd like to move my class of tuesday 2nd hour to room 14, etc.

What I have to do then is open the blocked FET file, go to activities list, filter that teacher (or subject), find which activity has the assigned constraint of tuesday 2nd hour, write down the id number, close the window, open the list of space constraints, filter for that teacher, find that id activity, open it, and edit the room.

Well, my life would be easier (:D) if I could go directly to the list of space constraints, filter by teacher (or whatever), see which of those activities belongs to tuesday 2nd hour, and edit it.

I could do this if the related time constraints where listed with the info of the space constraints (on the right panel). I don't know if this would be easy, or useful for other users. What do you all think?

Another thing that could solve my problem (it's not really a problem, it's only that I'm lazy) would be if we could edit all constraints (time and/or space) from the activities window. i suppose this is impossible.

sorry for being so demanding :-[

Suggestions / rooms free periods
September 02, 2009, 07:50:47 AM
hello all,
would it be possible to obtain a list of free rooms? The same way as we obtain a list of free periods for teachers. I did it by hand last year, but I wonder if FET would do that. It is useful for us because whenever a teacher needs a classroom in a specific day, or we need a classroom for a conference, it is necessary to know where are not students in that moment.
Thanks

Hello all,
I've encountered a problem when generating timetables and would like to suggest something.
Would it be possible to do one of these 2 things?
a) lower the weight of Min hours daily for teachers
or
b) lower the minimum and allow to use 1

The law in my country says that teachers must do a minimum of 2 hours a day. OK, so far, so good. The problem is that the law is different for teachers working only part time. If they do half of the weekly hours they don't have that minimum. Well, if I set the constraint of min 2 hours a day for all teachers at 100% weight, I don't get timetables because I have this teacher who is only doing 3 hours a week. Any possibility? any ideas?
Thanks

Suggestions / teachers preferred times
July 01, 2009, 10:58:17 AM
hello,
I guess I'm not in time for another suggestion, but I'll try for the future.
Would it be possible to add a time constraint for teachers saying preferred times? I don't mean available times. Sometimes a teacher says: I'd like not to have classes 1st one in the morning, or I'd like not to have classes more than one afternoon. But sometimes a teacher says: I'd prefer to start at first time in the morning. Is that possible?
Thanks

Suggestions / error report
June 26, 2009, 11:40:54 AM
hi again Thanks for the wonderful work you are doing. I would like to know if there is any possibility of getting a detailed error report when a timetable is impossible. I know that you get a report when you try to violate basic constraints, but I mean when the timetable starts generating but gets stuck and nothing happens.

Then you have the option to click, stop, and show impossible activities. What I would find very useful is if I could know WHY that activity is impossible.

I am stuck now andcan't go on with my timetable because I don't know why a certain activity is not possible to place.

Thanks

Suggestions / Show/hide Subjects, Tags, Students
June 12, 2009, 09:53:43 PM
Hello,
I don't know how difficult or how stupid this will be to implement. The thing is that the timetables for my school are enormous (very wide) because they sometimes involve 5 different groups at the same time with 5 different teachers.

If I could hide the group (1-batx-1, 1-batx-2...1-batx-5) and the subject name or activity tag, I could get something smaller. Did I make myself clear? Is this suggestion very stupid?

It's like the -X- that we can show or hide now.

//Edited to add: when i say groups, I mean self generated subgroups. FET doesn't show the group name, but it shows the subgroup, if it is used.

Suggestions / space constrains
September 14, 2008, 02:25:32 PM
hi all,
I'd like to make a suggestion according rooms and space constrains. I got wonderful timetables that assigned a classroom to each activity according to the space constrains I defined. The problem was with activities with more than one teacher or more than one classroom. It didn't generate any classroom, or only one. I know I can always add empty activities with only space and time constrains, but then these classrooms won't appear in the teachers' or students' timetable. I had to add almost all classrooms by hand in the html file. Any suggestion?

also, any possibility of turning on and off the -x- in the spots of teacher's not available times?

thanks a bunch for the wonderful program. :)

here is the fet file. hope it helps. You will suffer a dismay when you see how fast the timetable is generated. Teacher meetings are not included.

Get Help / combination of constraints
September 26, 2009, 08:16:06 AM
hello,
I have a doubt. I don't know if this can be done in FET with a combination of constraints. If FET assigns an activity in 5th hour and an activity in 7th hour, can I tell FET to leave free the 6th hour (for lunch). SO, is there a way of telling FET to leave the 6th hour free only if that teacher works at 5th and 7th?

Get Help / Display HTML
August 31, 2009, 02:18:39 PM
hello again,
I have my brand new timetable generated for this school year, and it's wonderful :-)
What I would like to know is if there is a way to show groups html without the columns when there are 2 or more simultaneous activities. I get something like this:

1r Batx -1      |      1r Batx -2      | 1r Batx -3
Optativa2       |    optativa2 | Optativa2
Física, Hora B |       CCTerra       |Lit Cat
Carolina           | Conxita       |Toni
LBIO              |      LFIS          |A15

This display makes my timetables veeery wide, and I cant print them in 1 page. Is there a way that I can eliminate those columns?

I have tried to edit the css file, but the only thing I can find is to hide teachers, groups, subjects or activity tags. I can't find where the columns are generated. Call me dumb :-)

Get Help / not generating timetables
July 11, 2009, 08:29:11 PM
I know vacation is about to start, but I have a question for when you all come back  :)

I don't get any timetable after more than an hour od generating. I don't get an error message, I just don't get a timetable. Is there a way that I can detect where the problem is?
simultaneous activities or teachers constraints or rooms constraints? maybe changing just one thing would solve the problem, but how can I know what thing I must change? Thanks

Get Help / combine rooms with activities
June 28, 2009, 11:33:55 PM
hello again. I'm sorry to bother you again but I have a question about rooms.
The PE teachers have2 rooms where classes can be given: outdoors and gym.

these teachers don't want more than 2 classes of PE simultaneous, because they don't want 2 groups sharing outdoors or gym.

I have solved this by adding a room constraint to subject PE preferred rooms: gym and outdoors with a 100% weight.

This has worked, because I only get 2 classes of PE simultaneously, one in the gym and one outdoors.

Now these teachers want the following: each group has 2 hours a week of PE, and they want that each group has one class in the gym and one class outdoors.

OK, so here comesmy question. Can I do this with a constraint or should I do it by hand when I get a definitive timetable? Last year I did it by hand, giving room constraint to those activities.

Is the question clear or I messed u everything? Thank you

//Edited to add:

is it possible to add a space constraint for a group and a tag? for xample, I'd like tecnology classes of 1st and 2nd year go to classroom TECNO1, and tecnology classes of 3rd and 4th year go to classroom TECNO2.

Is this possible and i am missing something? is it impossible? Thanks

Get Help / Help with years
October 03, 2008, 10:09:53 PM
Hello,
sorry to bother you all again, but I've downloaded 5.0.7 and I'm testing it from scratch. I did wrongly the years last time, so I would like to get it right this time :)

The problem is that I don't really understand how years and subgroups work. Let's see if someone can help me.

I have 6 years (forms). I have 3 or 4 groups in each year (1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B, etc). Then, some activities a week, these groups are split in different ways. For example, slower students from 1A, 1B and 1C go to a separate group for maths, spanish and catalan.. Then, all students from first form remix in 5 different groups to do diversified curriculum (they can choose a subject among 5 offers).

The question is: how do I tell FET to do these subgroups? Another question is: will FET consider the maths2 subgroup as part of 1A group? auto dividing year 1 into 1A 1B and 1C was easy, but I don't understand what the categories are for.

Any idea?

Thans a lot in advance.
