May I have this file, please? You can attach here or send by e-mail. I think the same group has two identical subgroups, so FET crashes.

About 4 or 5 categories, I will think about it. But it is just a matter of interface.

File corrected thanks to your hint.
Now I'm trying to add manually groups and subgroups. I'm thinking of varius configurations of groups and subgroups based on TT I'm working on. In my case, there is such a division of year 2:
2 -> (a,b) -> (a,(bg,bf))
and of course some parallel subgroups (which share some activities). Groups a and b are independent, as well as a and (bg,bf). What we discussed earlier was a kind of flat division which might not be suitable for every case.
I wrote that only to prove that it's not an easy decision how to change the program to fit the best the user needs.

I'd like to mention something that might be worth to consider. As we said earlier we can always make our own division of the year to groups and subgroups which are going to be most suitable to one's needs. It would be good to have the possibility to delete unused (empty) subgroups from all groups. Now, FET kindly informs us that a subgroup belongs to another group and you have to delete it again and again from every other group.

I wrote this in the TODO list. Probably we need an option in this case, remove only from current group or from all groups. But I hope that if you can generate the XML .fet file by an external program, you might also do this removal from your program.

Of course, it is possible to maintain subgroups in an external program. I just thought about these ones who would never write programs to extend FET capabilities (they are not programmers) and could simply "generate" their subgroups by hand with a text editor. Anyway, it's fine you wrote TODO down.
