Title: Constrain activity never to be placed in a room
Post by: dimi3 on November 09, 2009, 05:25:24 PM
Hello,

Is there a way to constrain an activity / activity tag so it cannot be placed in a room?

Best Regards,
Dimi

If you have some patience, you can add a constraint activity (activity tag) preferred rooms, 100%, with all rooms selected but without that particular one.

Patience, because you need to double click almost all rooms.

But what is the senario?
Why you would like to prevent an activity to be palced in a given room? can you provide an example?

Say you have a limited room resources: R1, R2, R3...R12
You would like all activities from A1 to A100 to be placed in any room except A101, A102 and A103 that can be placed in any room except R12
-Make subjects for A1 to A100 --> Subject has a set of prefered rooms ----> add all rooms
-Set  A101, A102 and A103  to a special Subjec, Say Subj_X
--For Subj_X --> Subject has a set of prefered rooms ----> add all rooms except A12 :)

Hope it helps

My idea is to limit the the subjects only in one building.

In my setup I can have more than one building only teachers should travel. So I decided to put a room constrain on the subjects. All classes in building A cannot be placed in building B with such kind of constrain.

I could easily go ahead and add this constrain to FET but I don't know if you have something similar.

Why don't you use space constraints -> teachers (or students) -> building changes?

I think that there's a possibility for a class to end up in a different building. I originally thought of this, but I am not sure.

If I add 100% for a space constrain on all activities for classes in building A and then changes of building per day 0. Will this be enough to constrain the classes to have activities only in building A?

There is something wrong here.

If you want classes to have lessons in each day in the same building (for instance B1 on Monday, B2 on Tuesday, B1 on Wednesday, etc.) then add max building changes per day (or per week) 0.

I see your point.

So to sum up:
1. Activities for Students for Building A have 100% space constrain for all rooms in Building A. This could be accomplished with one activity tag.
2. Constrain maximum building changes per week to 0.

I think that just by asking FET to place activities according to 1 it would effectivly constrain the classes never to have activity out of building A.

1. The students will have all activities in building A.

2. The students will have each day lessons in a single building (0 changes per day or per week is the same).

Building changes per week is the sum of the building changes in each day (so, even with max building changes 0 per week, students will have in different days different buildings - but same building each day).
