Title: Logo proposal
Post by: mumu on July 02, 2012, 09:21:24 AM
Hi there,

Downloaded fet last week and noticed there was no logo. So I made one using my humble Inkscape skills :)

What do you think about it?

Cheers!

I'm not much of an art critic, but that looks grand. Simple and effective.

More than nothing :)
I think it's good, but has an disadvantge: it should be more contrast. Black on grey background... if the icon is small (32x32) the user can't see (e.g. in menus).

Great work!

Thanks guys for feedback, I'll upload a more contrasted version ASAP.

Cheers!

edit : here it is, I think it looks nicer with a background color (taken from fet's website :P ), seems readable even in size 32x32 ;D

In the original email from mumu (private) he told me to add an icon to the FET homepage. If other people say that also, I will try to add this one. Please let me know the desired place to add this icon. (I am not an artist, that is why I made the FET homepage as it is for now; graphics are maybe confusing for some people.)

Or will you only use it in your package of FET, to add an icon to the FET executable?

In Linux you should include the icon-file in the tarball. The /usr/share/icons/hicolor directory (and its subdirectories, widthXheight) are good.
In windows... I don't use windows but as I remember in many times the icon(s) are included in exe files.

About adding an icon to GNU/Linux or Windows packages - it is a bit more complicated for me personally. I would like to leave this to other people (packagers or users), but I'll think about.

On Linux you should modify fet.desktop's Icon line:
Icon=fet
and should include the icon into tarbz2. Fet doesn't have 'make install' so the packagers do this step so can install it to the proper place.

Since I am not in the right position to choose an icon for the FET executable, I propose to have a link for the users/packagers with FET icons to choose from. On the FET Tools/Links page. Or I'll think about adding a special directory into FET, but I cannot promise.
