I have touched on this subject before, but I am still not sure of my own position so I would like to ask the members here for their opinion, which I regard highly.
What is your position on processing school data over the WWW?
If you have an online administration system in which you process all school administration data with regards to student data, including academic achievements, nationality, religion, identity number, passport number, medical information, date of birth, gender, discipline and attendance etc., as well as parent data , including career, qualifications, place of employment, post and physical address, financial information etc.
Do you feel it is safe to run a system that can be logged into by user name and password from anywhere in the world and be able to process this sort of information?
Is there any legislation in your country that either allows for or disallows this type of processing?
Do you have any knowledge of an online school system where the security has been breached and information has been leaked?
How would you feel if information regarding your children was compromised by an online system that could be 'hacked'?
(Oh... Sorry Bobby. I pressed modify instead of reply. So it look like i modified your first mail, please check that message again, it should be 100% yours. I didn't want to modify it.)
About German NRW:
I am glad that here is a strict law. So it is limited to do something like that.
In my personal opinion it should be even a bit more strict in a few points.
