I have 2 groups of students each in their own section. There are 2 activities that I want scheduled at the same time but students from either section can be in either activity. How do I set that up?

I think that you can add an activity with both groups and another one with no students. But in the final timetable you will have only the first activity showing (although the timetable is correct).
Are there also other groups in that year? Did you already used "all" categories in the students->years->divide year form?
if the answer is no:
please split the year by that.
if the answer is yes:
you can use Livius trick, because it is fast and care correct about rooms.
use fet->settings->timetable->print activities with same starting time if you also want to see the other activity in the html table.
you can use Livius trick without an other activity if you don't need to care about rooms.
I have tried putting one activity with both sets of students, and the second activity with no students. I then choose under the TIME - a set of activities has same starting time (day+hour). I then choose both activities. However, now when I go to generate the time table it will not go through. It seems to just get stuck. When I took the constraints off the time table would go through, but I need the two courses to happen at the same time.
I have other groups of students with their own schedules so I am not sure how to solve this problem. Any ideas?

Make sure that you didn't add the teachers twice (add the teachers to only one activity, or each teacher to each activity).
There are two different teachers. I even tried it by taking the teacher off the extra activity.
I am attaching the file so you can have a look at it.
I need the Sr. Ag's to have commodity marketing and renewable energy at the same time. They are both electives for the students (meaning any of the SrAg sections could choose either course). I have put both courses back to Sr. Ag right now because I wanted you to see if from the start. Let me know if you can get anything to work.
There are other courses that will be the same, but I just want to make sure I knew how to change one before I change others.
The reason I need different courses to be at the same time as well is because I need all of the courses to fit and not say that I do not have enough time in the week. There are still some courses to be added to the SrAg timetable.

I can see that the file is solvable. But I did not understand which activities must be simultaneous - maybe you can give me their id-s.
I am not very skilled at reading input files, maybe Volker will answer better.
Id 193 needs to be the same starting day and time as ID196. Id 194 with Id 197. Id 195 with Id 199.

See attached file. I deactivated the "Renewable Energy & Ag. Lec" space constraint for a preferred room, now it is solvable. Otherwise both activities need the same room, impossible (by the preferred rooms of id-s 193 and 196).
Ohhh I feel dumb for not noticing something so simple. I will try it now in the hope that it works.
