Title: Allow overlaping
Post by: karai on June 15, 2011, 07:13:04 PM
Hi,
First of all, sorry for my poor english.
I just discovered fet, and have a question.
Is possible to allow overlaping on the timetable?

For example a teacher can do 29 activities, but the week only has 25 periods allowed to use.

It's possible than FET overlap the 4 activities on the timetable with other activities?

The case is a school with few students and the teachers can do two activities at the same time with two different groups.

Thank you very much

You need to add, for each one of these 4 activities, two students sets. In FET, it is allowed to have more teachers or students sets per activity.

I think, I haven't explained correct.

I have 5 subjects every subject divided with 5 activities per week, and all the subjects are from the same teacher and the same group.

The week has 5 days, with 5 activities each day then 25 Activities.

With that values fet make the timetable.

Now the problem, I add a new subject. This subject is from the same teacher, but diferent group, and has 4 diferent activities.
The teacher has all the week full, but i want to assign this 4 new activities to the same teacher, because is a different group.

Then, It's possible than FET overlap the 4 activities?

The direct answer: No (it is impossible). In FET you need to respect the basic time constraints. You may be able to modify FET sources, but it is very difficult/complicated and probably unneeded.

But you still can use tricks (which might work perfectly):

a) The best trick, probably: add a dummy teacher, the pair of the real one, with only these 4 activities;

b) Use dummy FET rooms as the extra 4 activities of the teacher.

Maybe there are possible other tricks.

Ok!
Perfect solution!
Now I have to search the activities to overlap.

Can I say with FET that a subject A of a group A must be at the same time that a subject B of the group B?

Thanks for your help Liviu

If you don't want to search by yourself, there is other possible trick: a real teacher = two FET rooms, second room is not available in 25-1=24 slots which you choose with constraint room not available. This may not suit your case. I just wanted to give you the idea, so you may consider it, if it is useful.

Edited to add: FET will allocate activities to rooms. The preferred rooms for the 25+4 activities of the real teacher are these two FET rooms.

Two variants:

1) My preferred one: dummy subject A_B, then each activity has subject A_B and students A and B.

2) Constraint activities same starting time (day+hour).
