Title: Two whole subjects must have at least one between gap them. How?
Post by: Wizard on August 31, 2014, 01:08:56 PM
Hi!
I have a subject of Gymnastics (with several activities) which I want it to be at least one gap far from another subject called Science (also with several activities) if they happen to be in one day. My goal is not to have sweaty students in Science... I don't mind it to be "Science, then immediately Gymnastics", I just want it to be "Gymnastics, then at least one gap, then Science".
Is there a way for this?

hmmm... there are several variants to get something like that. I can't tell you the "best" variant, because I don't know your whole dataset.

Variant 1: use "activity must end students day". So there will be never a lesson after that.

Variant 2: simply set duration up to 2, but teach only 1 hour. So in the second the students can "dry" themselve.

Variant 3: Set the "seaty" activities into an other building (I guess they are all in the gym). Set all other activities into other buildings. Use min gaps between building changes to reach your goal.

Maybe there are more variants. Maybe I see them as soon as I know your whole dataset.

Hi! Thanks for your answer.
I have to apologize, I didn't phrase correctly what I aim to achieve. I shouldn't have said "gap", but any other activity instead.
So, I want to have "Gymnastics, then at least one activity, then Science".
I mean, when Gymnastics and Science appears on the same day, then I don't want Science right after Gymnastics, but I want any other subject.

Maybe try this: add a dummy activity, no teachers/students sets, consecutive with Gymnastics (it follows it). Then, not overlapping the dummy with Science-s.

Nice! But now Gymnastics can't be assigned to last houe, correct? And do I have to do this for every activity of Gymnastics (activity1 -> dummy, activity2 -> dummy)?

Yes, indeed, I forgot. You can increase the number of hours per day with 1, and for all activities but the dummy ones add preferred time slots in the first nh-1 slots (use preferred time slots for subjects).

Yes. A lot of work   :-[
