Title: Editing teachers statistics, and ensuring minimum number of teachers free
Post by: ChicagoPianoTuner on March 20, 2015, 11:27:57 AM
Hello again!  I have two questions.

First, I'm looking to get a bit more analysis out of the teacher statistics menu.  Is there any way for me to control what shows up in the window, or otherwise run a report telling me teacher statistics?  For example, could I somehow ask FET to display the total number of activities for each teacher minus activities in a specified subject?  Or minus a specified activity tag?

In a separate question, is there a way for FET to tell me how many teachers are unscheduled during a particular period?  Is there a way to ask FET to consider that as a constraint?  In my school, if a teacher is absent, his coworkers cover his lessons.  It would be useful to have a specified minimum number of staff members free during all time slots.

Thanks!

I think it is impossible.

A constraint: add all activities, then max simultaneous in all selected time slots, max simultaneous = number of available teachers.

Thanks for your replies.

For #2, I think that may not work for my timetable because most classes are taught by more than one teacher.  Do you know what I mean?

about #2:
you can do it with pseudo activities. But be careful, that isn't allowed in all countries by law; and/or you need to pay the teacher for that! i can also tell we always got enough free time periods so far, even without caring about it. just careing about reducing the gaps as much as possible. but for very school schools it might be a problem of course.

the hint is this:
add pseudo activities with subject "reserve" for the teachers. maybe 1 or 2 activities per teacher. no students in that activities.
sum the number of all "reserve" activities. divide that sum by the number of hours per week. round this number up. you need to add so many pseudo rooms.
then add a constraint subject "reserve" need pseudo rooms.
example:
each half time teacher get 1 reserve hour. each full time teacher get 2 reserve hours.
you have 5 days with 6 hours per day. so total 30 hours per week.
so if you have a sum of max 30 "reserve" hours per week, then add only one pseudo reserve room.
if you have a sum between 30 and 60, you need to add 2 pseudo rooms.
...

Hmm, that is bad, I did not think of activities with more than one teacher (are you referring to this?).

Maybe there is a solution also in such a case. Suppose you have activity A1 (tch1, tch2, subj1, year1, year2, group1). Then add another activity A1' (subj1), same starting time as A1. If A1 contained three teachers, we would add 2 dummy activities A1' and A1''.

It might work this way, with my previous solution.

My previous approach suggested for #2 problem the minimum number of teachers in each slot. This topic: http://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?topic=417.0 addresses the problem of maximum number of teachers for subject "Guard" on each slot, if you know in advance how many guard activities will do each teacher.
