Title: Latest First Subject
Post by: pmckenzie on June 09, 2015, 10:43:07 PM
Is there a way to specify the latest a days first subject can be? The scenario I am trying to avoid is when a single subject is scheduled for a specific day and is placed in the last slot of that day.

You are talking about teachers activities?
Hmm... Why is a single activity in second to last slot better then a single activity in last slot? I suggest using a "min hours per day" constraint.

Yes teachers are attached to the activities. Our blocks of time are split into 2 hour blocks and the students in question are far more likely to come to a single class that runs from 1pm-3pm than one that runs from 3pm-5pm. The min hours per day constraint won't help as having a day with only a single activity isn't an issue, just the time of day that single event occurs.

Can't you use activities preferred starting times, disallowing the last slot of the day?

In this instance I am getting close to a finished timetable so I can just block that particular slot and force a different slot to be found. I was hoping there may be a way to set a global rule for all activities I hadn't come across yet for future timetables.

I am not sure I understand. Activities preferred starting times -> you can select a subject, so this will care about future activities which were not input yet.

If i understood correct he "only" want: If there is only a single activity for the teacher at a day, then it isn't allowed to be in the last period.

Almost, If there is a single activity for a student set (rather than teacher) then don't allow the last period of a day

I am sorry, but I think I cannot add such a constraint. It looks too complicated.
