The top menu is not showing in the FET window
I am using ubuntu 14.04
Please attach a screen shot.
How did you compile? Because you reported a compilation error.
the top menu is for earlier version.
Currently I am using 5.27.5
I usually compile with qmake
and then make
I think you have GNOME. See the attached Nibbles screen shot (a game in GNOME I think). It has no menu, and I did not know how to start it. Then I noticed I needed to click on the upper-left corner (on the orange worm).
Please let me know asap if this way you find the menu of FET.
It might be similar similar to Mac OS. So The windows don't have an own menu bar. Mac OS users can only see the "general" menu bar. It's always at the same place and it change it's content as soon as you activate an other window. So you can see the FET menus only if you have activated the window. If i remember correct, then GNOME do it similar (but i didn't used it some years now).
The reason for this is, that it save screen place. So users with small screen size (like laptop users) have more space to work if there are less menu bars.
Michel, please click, on your screen like in the screen shot you made, on the circle in the upper-left corner, and let me know if the FET menu appears (up-to-down menu, not left-to-right).
Please let me know asap, so I know if I can release the new version of FET.
I do not believe it is a Gnome problem
I switch to a KDE environment and I am getting the same (please see screenshot)
and clicking on the dot did nothing
You are sure there is no general menue bar somewhere (hidden)? In normal case at the very top of the screen (not of FET window).
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appmenu-qt5/+bug/1307619
and maybe
http://askubuntu.com/questions/452079/using-kde-application-menus-missing-in-qt-apps
So, it looks like it is not our fault. Maybe you could try the workaround in the first link (in this post) and tell me if it solves the problem.
Okay I will go through the forum and check it
Thank you
I found some bugs also reported in the qt bugtracker forum. Not exactly the same problem, but close.
for example:
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-36396
some of those bugs are fixed by Qt. Maybe you should simply try a newer Qt version instead of hunting an already fixed bug?
Removing appmenu-qt5 made the menu reappear.
Thank you for your excellent support :)
Thank you for your bug reports and help!
