Our user, Darren McDonald, kindly provided us with a Mac OS X executable. The link is https://abmathematics.com/?page_id=966
Please write here problems.
Thanks Darren McDonald
I have tried to download the zip file from his site.
But it seems that the Mac OS X executable FET file is still version 5.27.8 (the same version released last year by yush)
Thanks for catching this LSimon!
The correct version should now be included—can you check now to see that you're getting 5.30.2 from the site? (Let me know if there's still a problem.)
Big thanks!
The version now is 5.30.2 .
It worked smoothly.
This is the Mac OS excuteable version I have waited for almost a year :) :)
No problem, and sorry about the mixup! :)
(When creating the folder for the upload I had both the new version and the old version open to make sure I was distributing the same set of files, and I must have accidentally copied across the app from the wrong folder.)
Again, thanks for catching that!
FET 5.30.3 is now available for download.
I often compiled myself FET source for MacOS but the result app lacks the translation folder. So you need to open the package and place under fet.app/Contents/MacOS
The zip package published also lacks this functionality. For the next version, please, include this change so anyone don't need to make it.
Davide.
Thank you for the suggestion—I was thinking about doing this when I next compile FET, and given that there's some interest I will do this for the next release. :)
You could do that with FET-5.30.3: make a new release, with the name fet-5.30.3-1 or fet-5.30.3-2 (as you prefer). But you can also wait for FET-5.30.4 or FET-5.31.0.
Done—version 5.30.3-1 is now available for download and has the language files already in place (and removes the now redundant translations folder).
Thank you!
FET 5.30.4 is now available for download.
FET 5.30.5 is now available for download.
Version 5.30.5 doesn't work on Mac OS X Lion (10.7.5) so, I compiled myself with Qt 5.6.1 with success.
If you want my compiled version to test on your system tell me.
FET 5.30.6 is now available for download.
FET 5.30.7 is now available for download.
FET 5.30.8 is now available for download.
FET 5.31.0 is now available for download (and is now compiled using Qt 5.8).
Edit: And it seems I've also discovered the short code for the cool guy emoji.
Thank you, Darren :)
PS: I modified a bit your message, because your text was parsed as an emoticon.
PPS: Darren is referring to Qt 5.8 :)
FET 5.31.1 is now available for download.
FET 5.31.2 is now available for download.
Thank you, Darren! :)

Thank you McDonald.
Liviu i hope you can add the link to this version in:
http://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/download.html
regards
hmm... Liviu added it already there. but i must admit not directly You need to follow the "Mac"-Link (see point 4).
(I think) the reason is easy: Liviu wants to point out that he didn't check those version. (Because of a missing Mac, missing time, ...)
he might add it on the same page, but he should still note that he didn't check all the other versions. Every user needs to know himself if you can trust such an external link or not.
i like the separated pages, since it is more clear that Liviu is not responsible for the other links.

Yes, and also Darren might update his file, and this way I won't need to be careful to update the new versions.
I've been traveling recently (hence the wait), but FET 5.31.3 is now available for download.
FET 5.31.4 is now available for download.
FET 5.31.5 is now available for download.
FET 5.31.6 is now available for download.
I'm both moving and travelling (and without my laptop with all the developer software), so it'll be a bit of a wait for FET-5.31.7 (at worst a couple of weeks, but possibly sooner).
Thanks, don't worry, there are no critical things in this new release.
FET 5.32.2 is now available for download. Sorry for the wait!
Yesterday, I installed last version of fet on my 10.9.5 iMac, but it's crash when i open the examples, when i try to change language or I do something.
What I can do?
Where I can download another Mac Version of fet (5.31.x)?
I attach the report.
I saw you are using MacOS 10.9.
Darren compiled with Qt 5.9.
But Qt 5.9 need at least MacOS 10.10. (see: http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/supported-platforms.html )
You could compile with an older Qt version if you need it, but i highly suggest to update your OS. Your OS version has got known critical security problems. Apple doesn't support your version any more (it was supported only up to fall 2016). You can download a newer version for free in your Mac App Store.
FET 5.32.3 is now available for download.
(Also, I've just got my new "work computer" up and running, so I should be able to compile new FET versions more quickly than I have been able to in the past few weeks!)

Is it possible to compile FET 5.47.0 under mac os X El Capitan?
I don't have access to a computer running El Capitan right now, but I think this would be possible. It would require an older version of Qt, though, since MacOS 10.13 or higher is required for the latest version (5.15) of Qt.
Edit: I've just seen your other post about the issues you're having with El Capitan, and I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions. Perhaps this thread (https://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?topic=1404.0) might help?
Thank you, Darren, indeed, I think this is the problem (the link to "this thread" that you gave).
FET 5.47.1 is now available for download here (https://abmathematics.com/?page_id=966). (Now compiled with Qt 5.15.2 and Xcode 12.2 on Big Sur.)
FET 5.48.0 is now available for download here (https://abmathematics.com/?page_id=966).
FET 5.48.1 and FET 5.48.1-BP are now available for download here (https://abmathematics.com/?page_id=966).
Both FET and FET-BP were recompiled with the newly released Qt 6.0.0. This new version of Qt addresses a display bug that affects FET users on Big Sur (buttons and button highlights were not correctly aligned), so users of Big Sur will want to download the newly updated versions, both available here (https://abmathematics.com/?page_id=966).
FET 5.48.1 accidentally quit in MacOS (Big Sur 11.1)
After I load FET (5.48.1) application, it will quit itself when I press ↑ (uparrow) or ↓ (downarrow) button.
However , it does not have any problem when I use the mouse to click the constraints / information.
Thank you for the bug report! I verified with Qt 6 on my GNU/Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed and I get no such problems.
Great! :) So it was a false alarm.
Yes, it seems ok as my FET works normally now.
it may be just an accident.
Sorry for making inconvenience
(p.s. also sorry for accidentally delete the message which I said that the programs runs normally again after my macbook restarts)
It's OK, no problem.
There is a crash report here: https://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?topic=4764.0
Maybe because of Qt 6.

Hello. I am a new to FET and just a beginner.
I've an old Mac so I'm looking for an executable compatible with MacOS Sierra (10.12.6).
Is it still available somewhere?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I tried to run PC version in Wine/Winebottler but wasn't able to get it working. Is it my fault or it's actually not possible?

I think the current version may still work on Sierra, but I don't have a system on which to test this. Note that Sierra introduced "Gatekeeper," so the app will not run the first time you open it (as I'm not a registered developer, since it costs $100 US per year). Instead, you have to right click on the app, and then select "Open" (this may need to be done twice). After you've done this, the app will open and run normally.

I've never tried this, but even if it were to work, the version compiled specifically for MacOS would offer better performance.
Thanks for you answer. Unfortunately the last executable (6.1.5) can't run under MacOS Sierra.
It says that MacOS Mohave is needed. Perhaps has to be compiled differently? In this case I would try.

I'm sorry the current version isn't working under Sierra. Yes, compiling FET using Sierra should fix this issue, so I suggest giving that a try. You'll need to install Xcode to use some of it's components, and using the Xcode version compatible with Sierra is likely to allow you to run the software. Good luck, and let us know if you run into any problems with compiling.
Thank you!
Thanks to the instruction of this great forum I was able to compile v.6.1.5 to make it executable under Sierra (10.12).
I'd be glad to share it. In case let me know.

Congratulations, gt! :)
I am not sure how much is still used this older version of Mac OS X. Thank you for your offer! I hope other old Mac versions users might benefit.
Did you use Qt 6? Or you needed to go back to Qt 5.15.2?
For other users interested in compiling the Mac version of FET themselves, I've updated the instructions found at https://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?topic=2660.0 (https://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?topic=2660.0).
Yes, Sierra is old but I think it's a very good choice for old Macs. Universities and schools often still have old computers.
I spent some time to know what versions were compatible and ended up with Xcode 9.2 and Qt 5.13.0 running in a virtual machine (actually I use Mojave at home).

On the Tools/Links page of FET ( https://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/toolslinks.html ) there is the Ubuntu link: https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=fet . They updated for the latest Ubuntu, lunar, to FET-6.7.6 (the before the last FET version).
Unfortunately, I cannot coordinate a FET package for Ubuntu. I did my best and provided the GNU/Linux universal executables, as AppImage and AppDir, in the Download section of the FET page.
Good day all and happy new year, I have downloaded FET for Mac for the first time. Is there any new documentation I should refer to? I notice that to open a file I have a choice of the mode (official, mornings-afternoons, block planning and terms, I haven't seen this before. Thanks for your time.
Hello! Happy New Year!
If you used the official FET in the past, you can use FET 6 with the Official mode.
No really new documentation, but more like updated, for the Official mode.
Many new nice features.
Hello, does anyone have an older compiled version compatible with MacOS 10.13? I have tried to compile my own version but I am unable to do it, I am not very good with computers.
Hello,
I have FET-5.49.1 for macOS on my hard disk, but I think it is also not compatible with your system (see https://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?msg=29747). And anyway I recommend you to use the newest FET, which is much better.
I think you need to use the old Qt 5.15 on macOS 10.13, to compile FET.

Buongiorno, Anna Moscatelli,
Unfortunately, you need to compile FET with the old Qt 5.15 on your platform. There is some advice in the README file of FET.
Or maybe try to use the Windows executable with Qt 5.15 with a Windows emulator for your macOS.

Hi, I downloaded FET 6.9.3 for macOS but when I try to open it, it says the file is damaged and cannot be opened. I checked the SHA-256 and it's correct. No problem with version 6.9.2
Hi ayreon, you're right, there's an error in the FET-6.9.3 zip file. I'm afraid I'm not able to fix this at the moment, so I've reverted the links on my site to point back to the version 6.9.2 file. Check back next week and hopefully I'll have updated files available then!
Hi Darren,
I tried downloading the new FET-6.9.4.zip but it seems to have the same problem :-(
Just as a question:
Do you have an Intel (x86) Apple computer (so around 2 years and older)
or do you have a M1 or M2 (ARM) Apple comuter (so around 2 years and newer)?
Intel macOS (macMini 2018 with macOS Ventura). Versions until FET-6.9.2 work as expected
hmm... ok.
I don't know the reaason yet. We didn't change macOS related stuff in the FET source.
So i guess...
... there is a bug in the newer Qt versions
or
... Darren or newer Qt Versions might have accidentally changed the target version from x86 to ARM.
or
...???
I sadly haven't got an idea how to locate and fix the bug.
I searched for the error online and I finally found the solution, there is something wrong with the file attributes. I fixed by executing:
xattr -cr fet.app
Maybe there is some extended attribute that wasn't there on the previous versions, now it works.

Sorry for the late reply, and thanks ayreon for sending this along. I think the issue was caused by a bad installation of Qt on one of my computers—compiling now doesn't seem to be problematic, but do let us know if you run into any further trouble!
Hi,
I have just downloaded fet-6.12.0.dmg, I open a .fet file and when I press button timetable-generate-*start*, form vanishes and no further notice of the app apart of the crash report (attached). I have observed the same behaviour with some previous .dmg packages, fet-6.9.2.dmg is the last one that works properly in my box.
I have managed to build fet from source through MacPorts qt5 (qt6 has errors in Big Sur MacPorts) and it works like a charm.
I would only to point out these crashes, for what it's worth.
Thanks Liviu, Volker, Darren and all who have contributed to fet.
Thank you,

It seems that you need macOS >= 11 to be able to use Qt 6, which is used by Darren in his FET package. Fortunately, FET can be compiled also with Qt 5, which is what you did.
Thank you
@Liviu Lalescu.
As you point out, macOS 11 is a supported platform for qt6, so maybe the problem is a different one.
Best.
I think they say on that page that to build a project with Qt 6 you need macOS >= 12? Maybe they forgot to check compatibility with macOS 11...
I do not understand these problems with old macOS operating systems - on a PC I can simply install at any moment the latest preferred GNU/Linux distribution.
I think/hope it is not a FET problem.
I used FET Timetible for Mac over 8 years. However, last month i faced Macbook crash and reinstall it from fresh copy. However, Due to hardware problem, I just have Macbook with Catalina OS. When I visit FET for MAc repository, I did found the matched FET version for Catalina. I tried, the newest version (16.4), but It could not running in Catalina. Is there any download link of FET for mac perhaps V 6.9 or 6.11?
Unfortunately, I do not have these. I hope
@Darren McDonald has some older versions.
I guess it is a problem of the OS or Qt version, not the FET version.
I might compile the latest FET version on my Mac Mini 2014. I guess that might work. But compiling is need much time on that old computer.
Please test if you can run this TiTiTo version on your computer:
https://www.volker-dirr.de/TiTiTo-8.2.7-MacOS-x86.dmg
If that version works on your computer, then i will compile the latest FET version similar for you.
My apologies for late reply, due to missing notification.
Unfortunately, I could not run the application.
FYI, my macbook is Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2012
Hmm... Ok. Sadly i can't compile for older MacOS versions :-(
By the way: It is not good to use such an old operating system. At least, if you browse with it in the internet. The old operating systems have all a lot of known security bugs and Apple (and also other OS vendors) won't fix them anymore.
You should think about updating your OS.
In best case by the official Apple store, but i saw your hardware isn't supported anymore by Apple.
So you should maybe think about 4 variants:
a) Update the OS with a tool like OCLP. see https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/
b) Install a current Linux version
c) Think about buying a new computer
d) unplug your computer from the internet or at least visit only pages that you fully trust AND that doesn't contain advertisement, since bad guys like spreading malware by using bugs from the webbrowser and they are impeding the malware in pictures, sounds or videos of advertisement. So even very trustful pages can have included malware if they present advertisement from other guys.
Hi deewahyu, sorry for the late reply!
I've got a few older versions that might work, but I can't tell you which you'd need.
Try one of these (try them in this order, so you get the most current working version):
- FET-6.3.4 (https://abmathematics.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/fet-6.3.4.zip)
- FET-6.2.8 (https://abmathematics.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/fet-6.2.8.zip)
- FET-6.1.8 (https://abmathematics.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/fet-6.1.8.zip)
Good luck!
Hello, I simply want to confirm that the provided precompiled FET-6.3.4 (https://abmathematics.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/fet-6.3.4.zip) works for my macOS 10.14.5. Thank you very much, Darren!!
Hello. I still have to run on older Macs. Occasionally I compile with Qt 5.13.0, it seems to allow running newer Fet versions on old MacOs.
I just compiled v.6.18.1. I'd share it (hoping to be helpful to other users) so please let me know if it could be uploaded somewhere.
Regards
Hello,
@gt ,
Thank you for your work!
Maybe you could also try Qt 5.15.v (5.15.2 is the latest freely available binary, 5.15.12 are the latest freely available sources). It will certainly run on old macOS.
Please see how we link Darren's page on the FET download page. If Darren agrees, I could also add a link to your page, with something like "macOS executable, by gt, for older mac-s". If you don't have a page, it is a bit problematic.
I am opened to discussions.
Hi,
I use Fet for MacOS regularly but now I'd like to use also the cli version and I noticed that there is no fet-cl in the MacOS version. I compiled it myself but I need to do every time a new version come out,
is it possibile to have the cli executable inside the built package on the web site?
Thanks!
Hello,
@ayreon Thank you for your interest! I will kindly ask
@Darren McDonald to have a look at your post.
Nice answer:
Thank you for suggestion. It's a good suggestion.

yes, moving (the unpaid) work to an other person is always the easiest part.
Ok. you are probably right, it won't be too difficult if you already compile the GUI version. On the other hand I hope more people will think more about all that work. Not only coding, compiling, helping in the forum, pay the web server so people can download for free, ... I hope people will not forget to donate at least a bit, so we can pay at least web server, current, ... . And also hardware/software that we only bought so we can compile and test on that other hardware/software that we don't use in normal case. We only bought it, because other users use it.
Yes, you're right, but...
I would not have asked if it would require some effort.. I mean, I followed your guide to compile a macOS version and the fet-cl executable was there, I just copied it inside the fet.app folder.. There's no need to do anything else. So I was wondering if, since you already compile a macOs version and put on the web site, maybe with an automated script, maybe it could be possible to add the copy of that file inside the package. :-)
For everything else you said your're definitely right.
Thanks for all your works
ayreon, you're right that compiling FET produces both the app and the cli version, and we used to bundle the cli version with the app.
Unfortunately, the introduction of Gatekeeper (Apple's OS "feature" that ensures only "trusted"* apps can run) complicates things. I'm guessing you only ran the compiled cli on the Mac you used to compile FET? If so, you wouldn't notice any issues. However, if you try to run the cli version you compiled on any other machine, you won't be able to get it to run (at least not with ease). There are some workarounds (they require some terminal commands to recursively mark the components of the script as trusted), but it's a pain to do (and may not even work on the latest OS), so I figured that anyone who wants to use cli version of FET (a minority of FET users) would also be someone who could compile the software without difficulty on their own machine, so I dropped the cli version from the mac bundle years ago, and I think you may be the first person to have have noticed.
In any case, it looks like you've managed just fine, so it's good news that the cli version is still working on macOS!
*To some extent, "trusted" just identifies those who have paid Apple for an Apple Developer account at (when last I checked) $100 per year. I think Mac users can decide on their own whether they trust the FET developers enough to run the software.
Hi Darren, thanks for your answer, I didn't know about this critical technical limitation!
Yes the fet-cl compiles just fine on an M3 Pro with latest macOS.
I can also add that I compiled the fet-cl using your guide on that M3 Pro machine enabling also the use on an Intel processor (so that I can use it also on a mac Mini), and it worked just fine on that machine. But I do not know if it is because the mac mini (2018) is old or because they are linked to the same account.
I thought it was easier but if there is a problem with the security for the majority of the users, of course, I'll continue building it on my own :-)
Thanks for all the good work.
