Title: Max Hours Per Week
Post by: Chris on August 27, 2009, 02:11:39 PM
Hi
How do I set the max hours per week for a teacher? My teachers work 5 days per week, up to 22 hours per week. There are 4 possible teaching periods per day and the number of periods taught each day varies. :-[
Thanks
Chris

You cannot "set" the maximum number of hours per week. This number is equal to the number of days per week x number of hours per day.

The number of hours per day in FET is the same for each day. You can use tricks to overcome this, like: making 5 days, 5 slots per day, and adding constraint break on say Wednesday last hour. This way, Wednesday will have only 4 hours per day.

The teacher must have at least 22 working hours per week for FET to be able to generate.

I am talking about FET hours. 1 hour=1 period in the timetable.

Hi Chris

Per contract, I think each teacher has a fixed amount of working hours per week
and FET needs you to enter all the activities for each teacher before generating a timetable
So there will be a given amount of activities/hours to enter !!

Another question: how a teacher can teach up to 22 hours per week in 5 days, with 4 possible working periods per day ?
we have: 5 (days) X 4 (working periods) = 20 only !!

Thanks for the feedback.

My teachers work 22 hours which is 11* 2 hour blocks and there are quite  a lot of classes. Our Day classes do 10* 2 hour periods per week and our night classes do 8* 2 hour periods per week so there are lots of periods for teachers across day and night classes.

I'm nor sure I understand how the "trick" will help. Could you please provide more information?

Thanks

Chris

Let me simplify your data, correct me if I'm wrong:

Let's consider a 2 hours block = 1 FET hour.

You teacher has total length of activities per week=11 (in FET hours).

There are 5 days, each day has 4 hours morning and 4 hours afternoon. Friday has only 4 hours morning (FET hours).

Then, you need to add activities and make not available for students who learn in the morning -> not available all slots in the afternoon. The same for students in the afternoon -> not available all slots in the morning.
