Hello,
I was used FET version 5.20.0 but the result was not good for my school specifications and constraints, so i heard about custom version that allow me to set a difficult constraints and customize my timetable scheduling. But how can i start with this version and is there any relation between custom version and a normal FET version !!! I want to set my old constraints and data to the new custom version with good interface for teachers. please i need your help.
Thanks in advance.
Mohammad
you can load files. it doesn't matter if it was done by custom or officical version. But the data has got different meanings. Especialy the days settings and all "day" constraints will effect "half days" or "full days". So you must check the days setting and the "day" constraints carefully.
Thank you for your reply.
You mean i must check all the constraints that refers to days like( Max days per week, Min hours daily,.. ) or i must do something in settings ?
and how it will effect "half days" or "full days" ?
you must check both.
in offical FET a day is a real/full day.
in custom mocco and algeria version a FET day is only a half day (morning OR evening).
I'm using US High-school version and i guess it doesn't matter if a day is full or half. I have a set of courses per a day and FET must schedule them according the availability of time and periods.
Is that correct ?
In the custom US MAPR version: FET day = real day
OK thank you again.
One more question please, I have a FET file contains errors (conflicts) so I tried to run it on the official version but it gave impossible solution. On the other hand I tried to run it on US custom version and it was generated successfully.
So can you please tell me what are the major difference between two versions and the standards that US high school depends on.
And if you want to check me file i have attached it.
Thanks in advance.
Both versions work totaly different. Of course a file that is fine in the custom US version doesn't make sense if you open it with official FET version. Also it doesn't make sense to open a offical FET file with a US custom version. It is a totaly different idea of activities.

Unfortunately i didn't take advantage from those topics. I need a documentation about this version to compare it with the official one and to know if there are different standards for generating timetable.
The main goal is to avoid the conflicts that i have got them because i used a lot of hard constraints.
your main goal (avoid conflicts) will be solved with both versions.
I didn't wrote a documentation for that version. Sorry. You can just read the topics and check the example file. If you don't understand you shouldn't use it or just do some try and error checkes. In that case i highly recommend to do a nice/padagogic activity planning and use the offical FET version. I wrote a documentation for that version:
http://www.timetabling.de/manual/FET-manual.en.html
I thought that in custom version i'll see a new constraints to use but there are no changes in constraints.
Just the scheduling approach was changed as you said.
So i think i have to use the official version and download the latest one to work on.
Thanks.
custom version have got the same constraints.
it "only" use the days different (half days instead of full days -> in mocco and algeria version).
"conflicting" activities in the US version. (To set up course scheduling)
I can't set up course scheduling in the official version ?
of course both version support courses, but ...
in the offical version YOU must decide/select the students of courses. (Or do it indirectly by divide the year automaticly. That is what most schools do.)
in the US version FET can decide/select the students of courses.
OK so in custom version i can leave the students list empty and don't attach them in my activities or i can stay working on official version with doing a fake list of students.
I'm afraid of this step if this what made a conflict.
what i did is:
For example i have 2 grades with 2 sections each and i made a fake students list for each.
Grade 1-A => Student's List ( Mohammad, Fadi, Mike).
Grade 1-B => Student's List ( Ali, Joseph, Cezar).
Grade 2-A => Student's List ( Rami, Hadi, Youssef).
Grade 2-A => Student's List ( Roney , Cris , Ahmad).
Those groups I assigned to my activities ( courses).
Is there any problem in this scenario ?
the only problem is that it might be much data to enter (and check). it will be easier if you (can) just take the automatic split year feature if you want to work with the offical version.
Ok I'll check it. Thank you.
