Title: What about this situation?
Post by: WBS on February 02, 2010, 10:45:53 AM
I am very new to this program, but I think it is promising. Unfortunately I don't know how to set the parameters for what I want it to do. Basically, here's the idea: I have 5 subjects, which are Listening, Writing, Reading, Project, and CCE Studies. Listening class is taught 12:00-2:00 on Saturdays and Wednesdays and 2:00-4:00 on Mondays. Writing class is taught 8:00-10:00 on Saturdays and Wednesdays and 10:00-12:00 on Mondays. Reading class is taught 10:00-12:00 on Sundays and Tuesdays. CCE Studies class is taught 2:00-4:00 on Sundays, and Project class is taught 2:00-4:00 on Tuesdays. So, the total number of hours to be taught = 20. I have 9 teachers to be assigned to classes: Solomon (4 hours), William (6 hours), Chris (12 hours), Claude (8 hours), David (20 hours), Richard (10 hours), Mourad (14 hours), Norma (12 hours), and Robert (8 hours). There are 6 sections of classes with about 20 students per section: Section numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60. Each section must be taught each of the 5 subjects (Listening, Writing, Reading, CCE Studies, and Project). Now with all that data, I need to assign teachers to classes. Oh, yes - and Solomon can only teach Reading class, and Richard cannot teach Writing class. So how do I set up FET to create a schedule which matches teachers to classes, keeping in mind the number of hours they have available to teach and the scheduling restrictions for Richard and Solomon? Thx!

You cannot let FET choose the teachers and students for an activity. You must choose by yourself. So, add activities like: A (teacher T, subject S, students St). The constraints you need can be added easily, I think "a set of activities have a set of preferred starting times).

Maybe other users can give more advice.
