Title: How to allocate more than one room to an activity?
Post by: Adele on June 09, 2020, 01:19:39 PM
Hi All,

What is the correct way of adding more than one room to an activity? I have an activity where a group of students split (let's call it physics, biology, computer science). The class splits to the physics lab, computer lab and biology lab. How can I enforce that in FET?

What I've tried is creating 3 rooms (Bio, Phys, CS). I've also created 3 tags (Venue: Bio, Venue: Phys, Venue: CS) and linked the rooms to the tag. On the activity I specified the 3 tags. Is that the wrong way of doing it? I get the following error when I try and generate.

Cannot generate timetable, because for activity with id=12 you have no allowed preferred room (from preferred room(s) constraints).

Thank you,
Adele

By dividing the year correct (for example with the automatic divide year feature) or with virtual rooms.

Thank you. Where do I get info on Virtual Rooms. I have my entire timetable set up and don't have the Subgroups setup like you have. I have years and classes and split the rest in subjects.

Now one subject will say Chem/Eco where half the class will go to Chem and half the class will go to Eco. How do I say Eco is in Class 3 and Chem is in Lab 4?

Whenever I put more than one activity tag, I get the error as per my first post.

If you use virtuall rooms, then you can say only this:
the activity with subject "Chem/Eco" should have the rooms "Class 3" and "Lab 4". So it is not clear if Chem should get Class 3 or Lab 4. You can see that in the timetable.

If you split the year, then you can say:
the activity with subject "Eco" should have room "Class 3" and the activity with subject "Chem" should have "Lab 4". In this case it is clear who will get the room.

In addition to Volker: You can convert a real room into a virtual room and add its information in the rooms dialog.

This is good enough for me. How do I use virtual rooms?

See my answer above. Go to the rooms' dialog.
