Title: Using FET as an activity planner
Post by: ARowbottom on June 19, 2020, 11:03:41 AM
Hi all,

After looking through the forums etc I have managed to use FET to help assign classes to teachers by using the real teachers = FET Days and Real time = FET Hours. However I have encountered one issue that I can't seem to solve.

I have a class which will have 4 periods over the week split between 3 teachers (2, 1, 1) during 4 school set time periods which I have assigned. A problem I am getting is that FET is assigning 2 of the Activities for the class to be happening at the same real time and day = FET hour over 2 different FET Days = Real teachers. Is there a constraint that tells FET to ensure activities start at a different FET hour (Real day and time) for different FET Days (Teachers) without me assigning them therefore removing the flexibility of the 4 activities to move around the different teachers during those times.

Hopefully I have been clear enough here.

Many thanks.

Hello,

Did you use FET official? I think for this problem you need to use FET-BP (block planning) - see https://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/custom.html (2nd link). Actually, we are working on a new version of FET-BP right now, but the present one should work well. It has by default that each students set has activities at most once in each real time slot (constraint hard-coded in the generation code).

Please let me know.

i am not sure, Liviu. Because block planning and activity planning is different stuff.
For example at my school we also do activity planning (manually, because it is easy), but we don't need a block planning.

@ARowbottom: maybe explain a little bit more detaild what you want to do, since there are totaly different things needed; depending on what you are exactly doing.

I had accidentally missed the BP version. I tried using AAT but the fact it had to be 30 was throwing things off so went back to official. BP seems to be doing what I want at initial glance.

I am assigning a single department of classes to a single department of teachers given that all blocks (A group of classes) are already timetabled at specific times where some blocks do overlap at real times. I want the ability to set certain classes to certain real teachers which I have done through preferred time slots.

A few final things that I could do with your help please.

Many thanks for your speedy replies!!

For your (2): maybe you could use activities have same starting day, which allows <100.0%? For your (1) and (3) - unfortunately these would be very specialized customizations, maybe taking some time, and I simply have no time now - I am so sorry.

Please let me know if (2) is solved.

It does seem to be working, although now it is feeling the pain that I had trying to reduce split classes!  ;D

I have also found that my (3) is already solved by viewing activities days vertical I just hadn't seen that view before!
And no problem on (1) as it seems to be doing what I want anyway!

Thank you very much for your help!

If you would like me to have a (quick) look on your file, maybe you could send it (by email if private).
