Title: two-thirds in the morning, one-third in the afternoon
Post by: Abdelhak on November 14, 2020, 02:00:16 AM
Hello,
I'd like to know if it's possible to apply the following constraint and how:
two-thirds  (2/3) of a given subject's weekly classes must be taught in the morning while one-third (1/3) must be taught in the afternoon, but no later than a given time, e.g. no later than the 2nd period in the afternoon.

Indeed, as Benahmed said in Arabic, you can use more constraints subactivities preferred starting times / time slots.

Hi again,
I've another question. Does the software offer the possibility of setting the preferred starting time slots "for a set of activities/sub-activities" "at once", "not one by one"?

I am not sure I understand correctly. You have the constraints activities/subactivities preferred times for more activities, specified by the filter.

I mean, would it be possible to apply such constraint to a an X number of sub-activities of a given activity at once, without having to repeat the action for each sub-activity?

If you have 4 activities (1+1+1+1+1) each, you can add a constraint subactivities for component 2 and one for component 3.

Can such a constraint be applied "simultaneously" to both components, or it has to be done for each component "separately"?

I think separately, but I don't see the problem, since there are few constraints.

in Algerian secondary schools, 2/3 of core subjects' weekly sessions must be taught in the morning while 1/3 is to be taught in the afternoon. Applying that condition using "the preferred starting time slots" separately for each subject takes too much time, that's why I was asking if it would be possible to do it simultaneously.

I am not sure there are too many constraints. But you could add a tag "Core" for each such activity and add only preferred times for "Core" activity tag specified.

The core subjects & their weekly sessions differ both within the same level/grade & across levels/grades, that's why we've too many constraints to set.

I think it'd be great to have a feature allowing for the "simultaneous selection" of multiple subjects (activities) and the ratio of classes (sub-activities) to be taught in a given time slot. That would make it less time-consuming.

1) Could you give me an example? I understand only Latin characters, please. And you can show me a .fet file or a graphic.

2) Maybe the best would be to add two tags, "Morning" and "Afternoon", only two constraints, one for each one, and modify subactivities to add these tags to each subactivity.

We've for instance English, a core subject for certain students' groups (those majoring in literature &  foreign lges). During their 1st year, those groups study English 4 hrs/week. During their 2nd year, they study it 5 hrs/week & during their 3rd year, they study it 4 hrs/week. My question is how can I select "simultaneously" (not separately) all the students' groups from level 1, 2 & 3 who have English as a core subject & specify that 2/3 of the weekly sessions for the selected groups are to be taught in the morning for instance & the rest is to be taught in the afternoon? I could do this using another software, but the problem was that it couldn't be done using ratios (like 1/3, 2/3, etc.) but rather nbr of sessions, which renders it a bit time-consuming, but still much less than FET. Unlike FET, that software is a paid one & itsn't an open source one. That's why I thought of suggesting such an improvement here so we can all benefit from it.

Thank you!

I think you could add like this: morning components 1, 2, and 3 of English (3 constraints) and afternoon components 4 and 5 of English (2 constraints). Is that OK? (Components 5 constraints for years 1 and 3 will be ignored.)

Or if say English and French and the others are identical for all students, add a tag "Core" for them and add the constraints only for Core and for each students year.

Thank you! I'll try to apply what you've suggested & see if it works.
