It is possible to alter the initial order of placing the activities?
I would like to try and place some specific activities much earlier in the layout to see if the remainder of the timetable could be built around them.
Do the given constraints have any impact on the order of placement?

Some constraints influence the initial order. Those who influence are: preferred times, not available, break, max days per week, not overlapping, same starting day, same starting time, and preferred rooms/home rooms. If the timetable is locked, activities with more min days between activities constraints will be placed earlier.
About modifying the initial order of the activities: please enable this advanced setting and read the help of the option (it is in Advanced, or in Timetable > Advanced shortcuts tab).
