Title: Balanced Morning and Afternoon Sessions
Post by: Bonifes on April 27, 2022, 05:42:53 PM
Hello, I'm using FET for our school. How can I ensure that lessons are not concentrated only in the morning or afternoon?

I have

Is there a constraint I can set so that I force-- At least some lessons happen early in the day and at least some later in the day?

Just to clarify, having read about some countries that have half days-- All students n all teachers are available for all days fully
I'm avoiding a situation where There's Maths, Chemistry, Geography [either] periods 1,2,3,4 each day and some Subject Like English only occurs in [either] Lessons 6,7,8

Hello,

There are many solutions. Probably the best and easiest: constraints subactivities preferred time slots or starting times. Select mathematics, component number 1 - for the first component. So you can add say 2 constraints, component 1, then 2, for early, and 2 constraints, component 3, then 4, for late.

Please let me know.

I get the idea. But first, thanks for such fast response- for Free software, this was excellent.

What I haven't fully grasped: I set up the subject as (5 periods)
Duration 1 split 5

How do I get 3 periods from this as one component so I can constrain it to morning, and  constrain the other to afternoon?

I would prefer split rather than adding 2 different Maths activities with split 3 and 2 -- Maybe it could result in more than one in a day. Yet if this is the only way, I'll work with it.

Thanks already, and I'd like to hear your opinion if you get the time.

You are welcome!  :)

Oh, it should be done perfectly. If you have math: SA1...SA5 (1+1+1+1+1 hours) per week, add 5 constraints: subject math component 1 allowed only morning, subject math component 2 -> m, subject math component 3 -> m, subject math component 4 -> afternoon, subject math component 5 -> a. So it is 5 constraints subactivities preferred times.

Attached a very small example, demonstrating that for two or more groups of math activities you need only one group of constraints (if the subjects are similar in constraints, you could also get rid of the subject in the constraints and add only 5 or 6 constraints in your whole file, so it is easier for you to manage the constraints - even if the time to generate is the same).

Excellent!

I hadn't understood that part on components / sub activities / split index

The example has made it clear. Will definitely chip in for the support time (over the week end) and contribute to the tutorials in the coming weeks.

So, it's good that I made this small example.

Thank you for your intention!
