Title: What is the easiest way to block out lessons for all students, teachers, etc.
Post by: robbo on January 27, 2023, 09:08:09 PM
We have a six-day week with lessons every morning, but only three afternoons. What is the easiest way of blocking out the afternoons when I don't want lessons to be scheduled?

You use the MA version? And you only want to have the first 3 hours in the afternoon? Just add a break constraint for that hours, since it will set all students and all teachers not available.

Maybe robbo is not using the Mornings-Afternoons mode, but the Official mode with students/teachers interval max 3 days per week (interval = afternoon).

Then, depending on your need, use break (as Volker said), or students set/teacher not available. Or interval max 0 days per week (but break or not available is better).

hmm... not sure. Maybe i missunderstand it, but in the offical mode it will be easiest to just not enter the hours.

He might want to disallow afternoons only for some students or teachers.

It is pupil-driven - i.e. Years 10-13 all have the same pattern of lessons, but Year 9 is different from this and Years 7 and 8 are different again.

I am not sure I understand. If you want a students set to work only maximum 3 out of 6 afternoons per week, use the constraint students set interval max days per week.

If you want years 10-13 to have the same 3 out of 6 free afternoons, you could add 3 dummy activities for these years, each dummy has duration = duration of the afternoon, and students 10, 11, 12, and 13.

Maybe you could show us your file or timetable.

Setting the different year groups to be unavailable seems to do everything. If the pupils aren't available on a particular afternoon, then it doesn't matter if the teachers are, they won't get scheduled.
