Title: Main menu arrangement
Post by: Massimo Mancini on July 01, 2009, 06:17:53 AM
Please consider an alternative arrangement of constraints menu entries:
in teachers, students and activities constraints it could to separate global actions from local ones: ex. for teachers a global action is one about all teachers a local action is one about a teacher.
I think that separating the global constraints from local ones can help to
think and speed up the settings.

Nice.
To help settings is a good target.

What do you think about having only one description, like / Teachers time constraints / Max gaps per day.

Inside the form coming up, you may find a list-box with teachers names where you may choose one AND an additional name you may choose like "all teachers".

When you choose "all teachers", that option applies to all teachers that haven't a personal option choosed.

Sorry for my english...

I am not sure this is a good thing. If there is a constraint teachers max gaps, then all the teachers must respect it.

So, Marco, which is better, the present arrangement or the arrangement suggested by Massimo?

I see an advantage following Massimo suggestion: it is faster to reach the constraint we are searching for.  What do you think about, Liviu?

I prefer the way it is now, but I never used FET as a real user :-)

Massimo, please also show me your preferred layout for the rest of constraints. I'll think about it. Could you also please write on the mailing list? And give links to thread, so that you don't attach the pictures? Or give links to your page, where you can put the pictures.

If you cannot write on the mailing list, I'll write myself.

Don't you think that it is better to have the teacher (singular) entries first, then teachers (multi)?

Menu improvement done. See snapshot: http://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/download/test/

I dont want to hijack this thread, but I think my suggestion is related with the arrangement.
I would find very useful to have on screen the statistics windows at the same time as activity windows, so I can take a look and add the missing activity or constraint. I dont know if this is possible or desirable, but as you are working on the main menu, maybe it is related. Sorry if it is not appropriate.

/Added:
teh new snapshot displays a very well arranged menu. I llike it very much. thanks for your work.

OK, thank you! Could you please check each constraint in the menu? And compare with the old stable FET, so that no constraint is missing? I checked that, but double-checking is better.

To allow simultaneous dialogs is too difficult for me. Interface is my weak point.

teachers constraints double checked
activities constraints double checked
activities constraints double checked
misc constraints are correct too

/added:
another thing I like very much is the notification in the generating screen that says when was the Max placed activities  :)

Could you please check space constraints?

The max placed activities was suggested I think by Yush Yuen :-)

space constraints checked and totally correct. I'm generating now to see this function of printing same day and time activities.

Thank you!

Please let me know if this printing of same starting time activities is correct. I intend to release tomorrow evening 5.10.1, if everything is OK.

Ok, I've tried and tried to generate timetables after the last constraints for teachers and it is impossible.  It says:

682 out of 714 activities placed
Elapsed time: 49 m 36 s

Max placed activities: 699 (at 15 m 25 s)

Sorry but until I discover which incosistence I have here, i can't test the printing activities thing

//Edited To Add:
OK, I've taken a look at the partial timetables and I know what you mean now. Yes, it's going to be useful for some people (including myself) because I can leave a copy of this at information, so all the teachers can see who they share groups with. Oh, and it works  ;)

Hi all
I'm not at home and I have many problems with internet, so I don't help...since august. Now I download the snapshot if it is there as exe file... an awful thing for me ;-)
I saw there is only the tgz. A good news  ;D
