Title: How to set two classes for the same subject on different days?
Post by: Jennifer on March 06, 2024, 09:31:21 AM
Hi,

I'm currently using the 6.9.5 FET software and I am still new to it. For each subject, there will be a 2-hour class and a 1-hour class weekly. Is there any possibility to make sure that the 2-hour class and 1-hour class for the same subject fall on the different day?

Thank you very much.

p/s: I found a post related to mine in the following link, but I don't have any idea about it.

Hello, @Jennifer ,

Please update to the latest official FET version, currently 6.18.1. It is much much better.

For your question, you can add or modify the min days between activities constraints for your two activities, make weight = 100%.

If you want, you can show us/me your input file for help.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I tried your advice and here's a description together with a snapshot of what I did using the 6.9.5 FET software.

(i) First, I click on Time --> Activities --> Others (1) --> Min days between a set of activities.
(ii) Then, under the Selected field (in blue), I include the 2-hour class and 1-hour class that I want them to be allocated on different days.
(iii) Lastly, I change the weight percentage to 100% and uncheck the box "If two activities are on the same day, make them consecutive." (in green) before clicking the Add Constraint button.

Are these correct? I'll give a try on the 6.18.1 FET after this.

Thank you very much.

Exactly! (the consecutive checkbox does not matter if you have 100%.)

If you add a split activity, with 2 components, FET will add a min days between activities between the components and the subactivities will be shown as belonging to a group. So, you might want to add like that, if the activities belong together. In the add activity dialog, increase the Split value to 2.

Yes and no. In that case you don't have any activities selected. In that case that way is too complicated.
If you didn't add activities yet, then you should do it already while adding the activities.
And if you already have a lot of activities, then it might be faster to use the "modify multible activities at once" feature.

Hi,

I tried your approach to set the min days between activities as the constraint for two activities and make weight = 100%. It worked and it resolved my problem this morning. I also tried the split activity feature but I'm not sure how to do it with different activity tags used for the 1-hour and 2-hour classes.

Thank you so much.

This is probably a better approach if the two subactivities are related. To make a different tag (or other fields) for different components, please enter the Subactivities dialog.

Hi,

All of the activities have been added into the software and I set the "min days between activities" constraint for two activities, one-by-one, for each subject. I'm not sure where to find the "modify multiple activities at once" feature.". I'm using the FET version 6.9.5.

Thank you very much.

Volker meant in the min days between activities constraints there is a button to modify more constraints with a single click. See the button named "Modify multiple constraints at once", down below.

I don't want to be boring, but I highly recommend you a FET update to the latest, 6.18.1.
