Title: Activity setting
Post by: Prabhash Paudel on March 25, 2024, 02:19:13 PM
Suppose a teacher has to take 3 hours in a week of 6 working days. If we split 3 with minimum 1 then the classes will be on consecutive days. But if one class on Sunday, 1 class on Tuesday and one class on Wednesday, how to set activities?

Do you mean you don't want activity A(A1+A2+A3) not to be on 3 consecutive days? Add min 1 day between A1 and A2, and min 2 days between A1 and A3 and another min 2 days between A2 and A3. Or similar, with rotated activities.

If you go to Advanced->Spread activities evenly over the week, this is done with a single click, after you inputted all the activities.

How to set the activities in the same slot? I mean 3 classes on same period in each day?

Constraint activities same starting hour (any days).

Suppose teacher A had to take 3 classes in a week of 6 working days. How to set these 3 classes in any three days of the week having 1 class in each day?

A(A1,A2,A3), min 1 days 100% between A1,A2,A3.

It gives either sun, mon, tue or mon, tue, wed or tue, wed, thu. But arrange 3 classes in any three days i.e. either on sun, mon, thu or sun, tue, wed or sun, wed, fri ect.

If you don't add constraints, FET does not respect them. If you don't want all the 3 activities to be on consecutive days, please add as in my reply #1 above.

Suppose there are 7 classes in a day and weekly there are 6 working days. In grade X, for mathematics 6 periods are allocated in a week. If teacher T takes mathematics, how to set the activity so that mathematics will be on same time everyday i.e. either on first period or in second period or in third period etc.

Please see my answer #3 above.

While setting, which time we need to select?

There does not appear a time selection in the activities same starting hour.

Still I am getting confused. A subject of 3 working days need to set in the week of 6 working days. How to set the activities so that the subject may or may not be in there consecutive days.

Just add an activity split into 3, with min days between = 1, 100%. If you don't add specific constraints so that FET will put them not in 3 consecutive days, FET will put them anywhere (bur not on the same day).

You can study some example fet files or read some documentation.

Min days =1, is for consecutive days, min days=2 is for alternative days,  isn't it?

Say A(A1,A2). Min 1 days 100% (A1,A2) means that A1 can be say on Monday and A2 on Tuesday, Wednesday, or any day different from Monday. Min 2 days means that A1 can be on Monday, and A2 cannot be on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday.

What percentage is appropriate for activity setting? What is the difference between 100% and 95%

100% means it is always satisfied. 95% means that in rare cases it can be broken. You might want to experiment with the weights, there is no exact recommendation. Volker wrote a detailed explanation about this in his manual.

If I set 90%, then will FET consider the most possible case, if not so will it search the better option?

Sorry, but I don't understand.

90% means that in ~90% of cases FET will respect that constraint, and in ~10% of cases FET will not respect this constraint. But please check out Volker's manual, it explains better: https://www.timetabling.de/manual/FET-manual.en.html#id_35
