Title: Replicating given timetable in FET
Post by: Aakash761 on October 11, 2024, 08:18:34 AM
Hello Everyone,

This is my first time using the app and forum, do let me know if this is the right place to ask for assistance.

So, basicly, I have designed a timetable format in excel which has certain fixed periods (Morning Assembly, Lunch Break, short Break, Monday exams, etc), which will happen in a designated period for the day/week. And I would like the remaining periods to be filled with the activities that i add.

I would like to know, how can i replicate the timetable by additing the fixed periods in FET .

Hope i am able to explain what I am trying to do.

I have attached an csv file with the timetable format that i would like to replicate.

Thank you.

Hello, Aakash761,

You need to input this data into FET. Add teachers, students, subjects, then activities (add split activities). Then add a constraint break for the MA, LB, SB, ME, etc.

Hi Liviu,

I'm feeding the data into FET, I have added teachers, subjects and i'm in process of adding activities.

I then have to add a constraint break for all the teachers. Got it.

Thanks for the guidance, i'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Liviu,

I've done all that i could have and i'm still unable to generate a timetable.

i've made all activities flexible (none of the min. days % is 100%, except for 2 or 3 activities).
I've checked the statistics, all of them look good.

I've added 2 files:

VersionTimetableFault
Colonels Academy_2generatedTrying add Exam activity on Monday, constraint added- for preffered starting time - crossed all time and left space for exam
Colonels Academy_2_aNOcross only the space for exam and remove exam component. Tried relaxing the activity constraint - relaxing the no consecutive restrictio on less imp. Subjects (Comp>Hin>Eng>Math
Colonels Academy_2_D1NO1) Removing Club, Remed, Exam nd Blocking student time for Monday and remedial
 (2) All activities readded with fexibility

Colonels Academy_2_D1 -- should be able to generate a timetable, but can't (currently its been running for 45 minutes but only 170/610 activities have been placed).

Could you kindly have a look and suggest where i'm going wrong.

Hi again,

I found that i've been using "if on sameday then conecutive - as yes" in many places. I've corrected them all but no luck on timetble generation.

Hello, Aakash761,

I kept removing until I obtained a minimum example, see attached file. Please examine the highest-stage timetable and think what the problem could be.

PS: Don't worry about the report of a new version file, ignore the warning, the new FET version is only on my hard disk

@Volker Dirr , the size of the attachments in reply 4 is over 512 kb, but the forum accepts this?

Hi Liviu,

I've attached the latest version of timetable, it works perfectly fine.

there are a few periods in each class, which are free (no activity allocated). I would like to have them clubbed together and have it placed at the end of any day.

So, if class 1 has 2 free periods, it would like to have them placed togeather at the end of any day.

any suggestions how i can approach this problem.

Hello, Aakash761,

Very easy: students max 0 gaps and begin early max 0 beginnings at second hour.

Hi Liviu,

Thanks, I'll check it out, I think this is also mentioned in the Volker dirr tutorial on YT.

Also, i came across a peculiar issue.
As you can see (screenshot 123), the weight % on the contraint that all math classes have min 1 day between them is set to 100.

And, in screenshot 124, you can see that Monday has 2 math classes and saturday has none.

I can't figure out why. Is there something wrong with the constraint ?

And thank you for helping out with my silly questions.

Hello, Aakash,

It is impossible! I think you mixed the files. Please, if you obtain such a situation, attach here the .fet file and the _data_and_timetable.fet file (you can archive them if they are too large). But I doubt you will obtain a bug report.

Hi Liviu,

Sorry and yes, mixed up the files.

Hi Liviu,

I have a timetable(for students) in excel, whih was designed by one of the teachers in excel itself. Is it possible to import it somehow into FET?

Iwoul like to generate a timetable(for teacher) using FET, based on imported timetable ?

Regards

Only if you can export it as fet-xml file (I bet you can't do that) or as a csv file that can be read by FET (This might be easier. It is depending on your Excel file and your skill level).

Don't forget that your question is like:
I have a math book; can Mr. Smith read it?
I can't answer that, even if I know Mr. Smith, since I don't know your math book.

Hello, Aakash761,

If the Excel timetable contains the table view of the students' timetable, it might be possible to derive a fet file or CSV to generate also the teachers' timetable - but I am not exactly sure how complicated. You need a programmer.
