Title: Windows 11 requirements - TPM
Post by: Liviu Lalescu on May 28, 2025, 03:19:26 PM
Dear all,

I think I tried installing Windows 11 some time ago on my desktop, and tried enabling TPM (I think this is what it is called) from BIOS, but my GNU/Linux openSUSE had some problems. I think I experienced some freezes or refuses to boot GNU/Linux.

I have Ryzen 2700X and ASRock X370 Gaming X Fatality from about 2017.

So, maybe you could guide me with advice/comments? Also, I am not 100% sure, I bought a Windows 10 retail license many years ago, am I allowed to use it for Windows 11?

Please check if there is a new BIOS update for your motherboard.

There are updates, but I am too afraid to do them:

1) They say that if the system is stable, don't update BIOS;
2) The electric current might go off exactly when updating;
3) I cannot revert the update to a previous version.

I didn't count how many BIOS updates I done on computers, but at least much over 50 times and it never failed.
Do you have many times shutdown of electric current?

No, not many. It didn't go off in the last months.

I enabled TPM and computer booted OK in GNU/Linux openSUSE. Maybe they (openSUSE guys) updated something. I got some warnings at the start, but it works. I will see if the system is stable, and update to Windows 11 in a couple of days if so.
