Title: Extra tuition timetable
Post by: jjan on September 14, 2025, 01:06:15 PM
Hi,

My school runs extra tuition after school (1 hour) from Monday to Thursday. That sums to 4 FET hours in a week. Some classes (years in FET language) have subject combinations and some don't. Student sets can do up to 9 subjects, which means a normal 1-week timetable won't help. We have 9 classes in total. I would like to create a 3-week timetable that alternates for the whole term (10 weeks). That way, all student sets can get all their subjects in those three weeks (12 hours).

From what I read, I am supposed to use FET term planning for that but I don't know how.

Any help please?

Hello!

You have FET -> Help -> Terms mode, and an example FET file.

I think 3 terms, and 5 days per term for you.

Where might I find the example file? I am on Mac and I already read the help on terms mode. I just don't understand it. I also already read the discussion link.

Can you point me to a working terms mode FET file that works so I can look at it and do mine?

Thank you so much.

The examples are in fet-7.4.7/examples. I attach them here, archived.

In your case: you will have 3x5=15 days. The first term is the first 5 days, the second term is days 6-10, the third term is days 11-15. Terms are only used for some additional 4 (I think, or maybe we added some more lately) kinds of constraints to limit the activities in a term.

Since it depends only on a few hours, it is maybe easier to use the official mode for you if you just place the teachers and students into a single activity and write a comment in which week which subject is valid.

Thank you all very much.

I considered my options and went with using the official mode. I am out of time, and I don't know how to use FET well (yet).
