Title: Newbie: is it possible to program such a schedule with FET: explanation & pdf
Post by: ozo25 on September 14, 2025, 10:31:02 PM
Hi,

As a teacher, I'm used to create by myself special schedules for complementary courses for the teachers' team, but now I'd like to use a software since it's so long to prepare it.
My already done schedule by myself I'd like to automatize (names are fake but the schedule was real) : My schedule in PDF (https://drive.proton.me/urls/2DDDENHH2W#JUVUaxoCuPPZ)
I'm not sure your software allows the kind of schedule I need (I looked in the manual but I'm asking for a little help.)
You can find an already done schedule on my protonmail drive. A picture is better than explanation but you can find the exact needs further) :

The principle:
- Between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, each teacher has chosen intervention slots set by him - each week the same slot (so it is constrained and the software is not allowed to touch it). In this schedule, which contains several subjects and sometimes several teachers per subject, the teachers chose their time of passage. Their schedule of passage cannot be changed, it is constrained. But I don't find how to set that in your software which seems very rich (I think I'm the one who is wrong)

- The class is divided into groups: 7 in the example I provide.
      * In MSG, the 7 groups each pass once in a week
      * in English, Eco, Law, the 7 pass in 2 weeks
      * In Literature and Philosophy, the 7 pass in 4 weeks
      * In Italian and Spanish, it is a bit more difficult: groups 1 to 3 pass in Italian in 2 weeks and groups 4 to 7 in Spanish in 2 weeks
      * In Computer Science, the 7 groups pass in 2 weeks (and... special case, they are themselves grouped together: 4 groups together, 3 groups together)

The difficulty is obviously that a group cannot be with 2 different teachers at the same time.
I also manage to avoid a group having to wait 2 hours between 2 classes (at most 1 hour of waiting, and I manage to do it almost all the time) Is it possible with your software or are there too many constraints?

Best regards

Hello, ozo25,

I think I understood your requirements and I hope it is possible in FET. I will try later today to replicate your manual result in a fet data file, and I'll let you know.

Hello again, ozo25,

I tried something. Please see the attached file!

In FET you can only constrain the gaps for a whole day. If gaps are important, we could make a "FET week" have 4 (days) x 19 (weeks) "FET days per week" and 4 "FET hours per day".

Please let me know!

You are welcome!

It is only the beginning, an idea. We might need more improvements/developments/changes.

Regards from Craiova, Romania! :)
