Title: Problems importing
Post by: Malamojka on July 06, 2026, 11:31:55 AM
Hi, I've used FET for 12 years now and never encountered problems like this. I always use last years students.csv and activities.csv, change them accordingly, then import them. But this year it doesn't work, whatever I do. I am pasting the message that FET gives me after I try to import the data. I had similar problems with importing students data, so I had to enter my .fet file, and just change the data manually there (I find it faster then using FET user interface). To me it looks like FET has problems with empty cells in my excel files. I did try to import last years files and that worked normally. Does anyone have an idea what this could be?

Hello, Mojca,

I imported your students, then the activities import complained about 2 missing students sets. So I added them in the CSV file, imported again the students, then successfully imported the activities. I attach the normal warnings I got and the final fet file.

I work with GNU/Linux, but should be the same on any platform.

Please let me know!

PS: I just saw that teacher Stebe Gasper appears twice (second time with two spaces in the middle).

I used Stebe(two spaces)Gasper, because for him I can have some overlapping (since he doesn't teach every week). I've always used this trick. Is there any other way I could allow overlapping?
As for my mail problem: I can't even import students data. I use the same students_import I pasted before. I got a message I'm attaching.
So what should I do now? I actually tried doing this on two different computers. My FET version is 7.9.0. What could be wrong here?

Your trick with Stebe Gasper seems interesting and useful. Another maybe better practical trick, because FET is not so constrained: add all his activities without a teacher, and constrain them to be max 2 simultaneous in all slots. Use activity tags to explain the teacher. You don't need to choose which activity is in first or second week.

About import: select field separator ";", and no text quote. Then select correctly the fields in the next dialog.

I have free time. If you need, we could make a remote desktop with Google and I'll check your problems on your computer.

I sent you a PM.

I answered. Note that I prefer email instead of forum PMs (easier to manage).

We solved the problem with the help of Google Remote Desktop ( https://remotedesktop.google.com/home ). Thanking Google for this freely usable tool!

It was not a FET bug.
