May I ask how the translation is progressed? There are at least two kinds of Chinese, one is simplified Chinese, the other is the traditional one. Into what Chinese would be translated?

Hallo,

Please wait a little bit until Liviu (currently not available) or Mr LongZhen answer. His announcement is pretty old. I hope he is still working on it. Maybe Liviu already get some progress from him.

I just asked Mr. LongZhen. If he does not answer shortly or if he abandoned work, you'll be the new official translator. He said a long time ago he wanted to translate into zh_CN (simplified).

May I give him your email address?

LongZhen abandoned the translation (he told me in an e-mail).

The official translator is now wck3. Please inform us which Chinese translation would you like to do. Also, please read the information on how to translate.

wck3, if you would like, you may inform us of your progress here or by e-mail.

Hi Liviu,

I would like to contribute traditional Chinese translation, but to be honest, I dare not promise you to finish the translation completely or in a short time. For the original text is very huge ... Currently I have translated 4.5% (in words).  :'(

It seems that Qtlinguist is not a very complete solution for localization of FET. FET's manual comes in form of HTML. Qtlinguist does not handle html-files directly. And after converting .html to .po with "translation toolkit" Qtlinguist cannot parse it. Therefore, with Qtlinguist one cannot benefit from translation of ts-file and apply to the translation of html-files.

It's OK, if you cannot do it, it's not a big problem. Just inform us of the progress, if you can. We'll leave the possibility for other Chinese translators to write us if they feel the can help.

I advise you not to translate the very large fields in Qt Linguist, because if I modify only one letter, the translation is lost. I advise you to translate the large fields (like instructions and FAQ and so on) like the others: leave them untranslated into Qt Linguist and make a separate text or html file with them (in UTF-8).

About the manual: of course you cannot translate with Qt Linguist. Please start a new html document with your Chinese text.

It seems that the previous translators abandoned the translation, so you are the official translator.

orange sent me a partial translation into zh_CN - Chinese Simplified (the main menu + a few other strings), which will be added in the next version (5.23.4, probably). See also http://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?topic=1808
