Suggestions / Re: Using FET as a "Web Application"
January 25, 2016, 04:48:10 AM
You may want to look at WWW.webtoolkit.EU .  it is like qt for the web, works on similar principles, and is c++ based.  It may be possible to port the existing application quite simply across.

Programming and other Technical Help / Re: Qt 5

Have you tried compiling with the Microsoft compiler?  I believe you can get a free edition (Visual Studio Express?) that should be sufficient to compile on the command line and via QtCreator.

I did try a build of MyndPlayer with msvc last year.  I remember it only required a few changes to start compiling, but I had issues linking with external libraries that I had to build with mingw and concluded it wasn't worth the hassle.

I'm planning to do a build of MyndPlayer with clang on Mac in the next couple of days.  I'm starting to use C++11 and clang would be the easiest way to support it on the Mac.  I'll let you know if there were any changes that needed to be made to the code to get it to compile.

Why convert it to Java or C#?  Qt is available on all desktop OS's, and it's not suitable for running on

If you want to give it a web front-end may I suggest Wt (http://www.webtoolkit.eu/wt), it has a very Qt style interface, and is C++ so should be easy to port to.

I would have thought it better to create multiple targets in the existing project, and conditionally compile the gui bits.

This way you only need to choose your target when compiling to get the different versions.

If you want help, or more explanation on how to do this I will happily assist.  I have done this kind of thing a number of times on Qt project.

Regarding moving to using pure stl, it is a big job, depending on how extensively Qt support classes have been used.  For example it is not simple to move from QString to std::string as the two have different behaviour.  Of course it would be ideal for all non-gui related code to used stl, but it is a big effort to change existing code to do that.
