Hello

I attach you a fet file regarding 5 courses.

This file has the least valid constraints, such as min days between same acts (by general rule, a subject cannot be taught the same day more than 2 hours), Students max gaps per week, Students set min hours daily and Teacher not available.

I started trying activating 1C acts and it works. Added 2C, it works. So on and so forth, when I activate 5C it stucks at 121/122 acts. If I deactivate 2C (and keep active 1C,3C,4C,5C), it works.

I tried deactivating one course at a time, and it works. I tried some pair of courses, but I cannot understand what's going on (maybe I did not found the bug).

It is very strange, I don't know why 5 courses don't work - but deactivating one of them it works.

Thank you!!

Hello

I want to post a small design request.

In the multiple generation window (Ctrl + H), the first tab has some misaligned elements, that is:

"Current timetable... Max placed activities..." string is aligned a bit to the right.

"Pause/Restart" buttons are aligned a bit to the center of the window (both horizontal and vertical distances are closer to the center. In the picture below, only horizontal distance is shown).

Picture:

You can see it better by alternating with mousewheel when doing multiple generation. I tested with 8 threads and it seems it only affects the first tab.

Thank you!

Hello

Which constraint is more performant?:

Max gaps per day for a teacher = 0

or

Max gaps per week for a teacher = 0

Hello

I have a teacher than can teach Mon, Tue and Wed from hours 4 to 9.

But this teacher can only teach one of these days starting from hour 4.

The other days can teach from 6 (included) to 9.

It does not matter which day he can teach at hours 4 and 5 (if it is necessary, maybe FET finds teaching later better). It cannot start teaching at hour 4 all days except (maybe) one.

Is there an easy way to do it?

Thank you!!

Hello

I have a teacher who can teach Mondays 1 to 4 and Fridays 1 to 2 (6 total hours).

However, he can use hours 3 and 4 of Mondays and teach them on Fridays 3 and 4, but Mondays only hours 1 and 2.

I tried to mark its available times Mon/Fri 1 to 4, but how do I tell FET to consider either hours 3 and 4 only one day, but not both? So it can freely choose what day he stays longer.

Thank you!!

General Stuff / Two activities are on same day
March 02, 2025, 08:02:48 PM
Hello

I want to know if there is a constraint to place A1 and A2 on same day, but not necessarily continuous (more flexible than ordered, grouped or consecutive).

Thank you!

Hello

I am trying to optimize this timetable and fet max places 332 out of 334 activities in the first minute

The last run took 4 minutes to generate

Suggestions / Move Activities Up or Down
March 01, 2025, 08:54:17 PM
Hello

I would like to suggest two buttons for activities dialog (maybe Modify):

- One button for moving an activity up;
- One button for moving an activity down;

This is present in Time constraints dialog and it is nice, but not in activities.

Thank you

Hello!

I realized that, when the generation is stuck, and I want to obtain the highest reachable timetable (I mean, suppose 80 acts, it placed 79/80 and if I stop the generation it ends placing 60/80).

In this case, I want to print the timetable with 79/80 placed acts, not the other

It creates a folder with "-highest", but it does not contain a fet file with pref starting times constraints. So I cannot print that timetable quickly

I know we have html index and we can see courses/teachers view, but it is an html not a pdf, it does not look great

I hope you understand, if not please let me know

Thank you!!

Hello!

Please, I need your help with this timetable attached

I have done an intense research without a solution

It places 121 out of 122 activities and I tried everything: from deactivating constraints and splitting 2+2 activities into 2+1+1 activities, without solution

For your interest:

For teacher ferressini I have activated hour 6 (6-7-8) on day lunes of not available times constraint because without it, less activities are placed (maybe it can be deactivated if not necessary)

Also, teacher ferreyra can change its not available times with this configuration:

You cannot view this attachment.

Although it seems that the constraint of the file works better because it places more activities than the above

Finally, teacher pasquali can change its not available times with this configuration:

You cannot view this attachment.

No changes were noted with one option or another.

Everything indicates that the problem is in groups 2c and 3c

Could anyone guide me to find the error?

Thank you!!

Hello

Following the previous question, I would like to know which constraints should be added to produce the following behaviour (in decreasing order):

You cannot view this attachment.

My attempt:

2+1+1 min days=1, 0%, non consecutive
2+first 1 min days=1, 100%
2+second 1 min days=1, 100%

Is it correct?

Thank you!!

Hello!

I would like to make a very small suggestion for tabs:

In multi generation menu:

Suppose 6 threads, it would be nice that we can do the following using wheel mouse and arrows keys when focus on tabs of threads:

1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 5 -> 6 -> 1 -> ...

6 -> 5 -> 4 -> 3 -> 2 -> 1 -> 6 -> ...

Actually we have:

1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 5 -> 6 -> we can't return to 1

6 -> 5 -> 4 -> 3 -> 2 -> 1 -> we can't return to 6

Also it can be implemented in Activity menu, subactivities tabs

This is for the solely purpose of checking more quickly max placed activities etc. For 2 or 3 threads (or subactivity tabs) it does not impact, but for larger threads like 6 or 7 yes

I hope you understand

Thank you

Hello!

In the attached fet file we have two courses, 3C and 4C.

All min days constraints are deactivated, also A students set must begin its activities early, respecting a maximum number of later arrivals, at second hour constraints

I tested each one separately and it successfully generates a timetable. But when they are together it stucks :

The report says:

I splitted all 2+2 activities into 2+1+1 (temporally deactivated min days) without success.

I don't want you find the bug, but I want to know the steps I would have to follow to find it

Thank you!!

Hello!

I am working on a timetable and I have 2+2 activities.

Since some of the 2+2 activities are not possible, I need them to be 2+1+1 in order to generate a timetable.

I want 2+1+1 activities to have the following behaviour (from left to right is most expected output and then it goes in decreasing order):

You cannot view this attachment.

(Colors and idea taken from https://www.timetabling.de/manual/FET-manual.en.html#id_15)

My attempt:

2+1 (first dur=1 subactivity) min days 1 with weight 100%, not consecutive
2+ 1 (second dur=1 subactivity) min days 1 with weight 100%, not consecutive

Is that right?

Thank you!!

Hello

I tried to generate a timetable from the attached file, but 2 seconds later it get stucks at 257 out of 323 activities.

It seems the path to found a solution is similar to this answer:

Quote from: Volker Dirr on January 18, 2023, 11:37:29 AMSo please check carefully in the first problem (with time constraint) which activity is number 283.
Then delete the constraints. And check the order of the activities is changed. The old activity 283 might no be at a totaly different place! Please let FET generate and check if it was able to place the "old 283" (might be now "400"). Only if it place the activity you might have found the problem. Check the new activity that isn't able to be placed. It might be a new problem or still the old one! If it is a new problem, then fix the new problem. If you can't see a problem, then it might be still the old problem! In that case the old acitity 283 and the "new" activity have the "same" problem. (So they might share the same room, the same teacher or the same room). If both activities have such a "share" thing, then normaly there is the bug that you need to solve.

It's hard for me to figure out how to solve it. That is, I do not understand the steps to follow.

All activated constraints are necessary. Maybe splitting subactivities can work, but I don't realize which is the first one I should pay attention to.

I tried to read the menu dialog. It starts saying:

QuotePlease check the constraints related to following possibly problematic activity (or teacher(s), or students set(s)):
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Id: 131 (    1/5 - RODRIGUEZ - LENGUA Y LITER - 2C - 2C)
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

But then it says:

QuotePlease check the constraints related to the last activities in the list below, which might be impossible to schedule:

Here are the placed activities which lead to an inconsistency, in order from the first one to the last (the last one FET failed to schedule and the last ones are most likely impossible):

Then a long list of activities are mentioned, so I guess I should start looking the last ones of that list, which are:

Quote...
No: 250, Id: 61 (    2/5 - TALARICO - LENGUA Y LITER - 1C - 1C)
No: 251, Id: 124 (    2/5 - MIGUEZ - MATEMATICA - 2C - 2C)
No: 252, Id: 80 (1 - PRIMA - T. ED DIGITAL - 2C - 2C)
No: 253, Id: 196 (2/4 -     RUSSO - ORGANIZACIONES - 3C - 3C)
No: 254, Id: 130 (    2/5 - RODRIGUEZ - LENGUA Y LITER - 2C - 2C)
No: 255, Id: 129 (2/5 -     RODRIGUEZ - LENGUA Y LITER - 2C - 2C)
No: 256, Id: 131 (    1/5 - RODRIGUEZ - LENGUA Y LITER - 2C - 2C)
No: 257, Id: 195 (    2/4 - RODRIGUEZ - LENGUA Y LITER - 3C - 3C)
No: 258, Id: 194 (2/4 -     RODRIGUEZ - LENGUA Y LITER - 3C - 3C)

Volker says "please check carefully in the first problem (with time constraint)" but I don't know if it related to the first activity of the list (id 131) or the last activity of the list (id 194).

How to proceed?

Hello

I had a hard time confusing crosses (not available) with empty spaces (available) in Teacher not available times constraint menu.

Most teachers do not cover all hours, so it would save a lot of time to only check the available boxes, instead of unchecking the unavailable ones.

I know that I can mark everything with X and then unmark those that I need, but it takes longer and visually I get lost. It would be better to do it the other way around.

Is it possible to add this feature?

Thank you!

Hello

I have noticed that the crosses when we modify a teacher not available times constraint are not bolded.

I would like them to be in bold just like in the Add menu.

Thank you!

Hello

In school there is a rule that says no teacher must teach more than 4 hours daily in a course.

In FET I created one activity tag for each course. 1A tag is for course 1A, etc.

I would like to know if using 'Max hours daily with an activity tag for all teachers' constraint applied for tags 1A, ... is less performant than using 'Max hours daily with an activity tag for a teacher' constraint applied only to teachers that exceed 4 hours daily.

Thank you!

Hello!

When the year changes, a lot of activities also change: teachers and its not available times also change.

With that in mind, I would like to ask what could be a nice way to "restart" the data in FET.

My steps are:

1) Delete the time constraints referred to teachers (every year the teachers change).

2) If it was necessary for a 2+2 (or 2+2+1) activity to be transformed into 2+(1+1) (or 2+1+1+1) activity (so that the timetable is successfully generated), I remove the latter and keep the original (2+2). That's because it could work with the original activity (and in fact it is recommended at school: try to keep the hours together).

3) I update the teachers' list.

4) This causes that all activities don't have min days between constraints. Adding them manually is too tedious.

5) This forces me to remove all activities and start again every year.

Of course if the changes are not big, I just reassign activities.

In this way, I make sure I'm not skipping activities that are supposed to be the same as last time, but I always run the risk of making mistakes. The negative part is that it is very tedious to do everything again.

Do you have a better way to optimise this process?

Thank you!!

Hello!

I recently updated my laptop with more RAM. I would like to know if that would impact in performance generation.

Also, I never answered this question myself: While FET is generating (let's say 6 out of 8 processors), using my PC for others things such as YouTube, Gmail or Drive would degrade the generation performance?

Thank you!!
