FET for Academic use

During my PhD research I decide to use FET in some examples , the question is "can I use FET program for academic research ?"

FET is licensed under GNU GPL v2 or later, which you can read in the file named COPYING from the FET archive, or here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html

Let me talk to Volker about this and we'll write after that.

I am not sure what you mean.
a) You want to use FET to generate timetables of your department.
b1) You want to use the FET source to simulate a physical issue.
b2) You want to study/research the FET source.

But on the other side it doesn't matter at all. All 3 examples are allowed as long as you care about the GPL.
