I often have the situation that a group of students can choose courses. There are several courses on offer at the same time and the students can choose. At the moment, I enter all the options in different (arbitrary) subgroups of students. This is not really convenient.

Would it be possible to allow more than one activity at the same time for all or a selected group of students or activity tag (optional: max. x activities at the same time)?
This would be sort of "auto subgrouping" of students.

This setting should of course be disabled / locked by default as "normal" users will not use this option (which conflicts with basic time constraints).

Of course that isn't convenient, because that kind of using subgroups will work only in a very few special cases.
The correct using of subgroups is adding a student name as subgroup. The courses are group names!
Entering that data manualy is of course very time consuming, you should import it from your school administration software.
If you want to manualy add courses, then you should use the "automatic split year" feature! You will see, that courses are also not subgroups then, courses are groups!

Thanks for the hint, Volker!
But I fear this does not solve my problem.

We publish the timetable first. Afterwards the students can choose the courses.

At the moment I have 8 subgroups (max. 8 courses at the same time). I have to make sure I enter courses that take place at the same time (see manual planning: http://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?topic=2502.0) in different subgroups.
It would be more convenient if I could enter these courses in the same group, and FET puts simultaneous courses into automatically created subgroups (similar to the auto subgroup that is displayed if there are no subgroups for a certain group of students).
As already mentioned: locked extra feature only for all or selected groups of students or activity tags.

Do you see the "convienience"?

if your students can select only one course, then it is ok to do that.
but if your students must select 2 or more courses, then you are wrong!
please read the link i sent you.
in normal case courses are always groups! not subgroups! that is only in a special case possible (if the students select only one course).
so the correct way is using the split year feature. please read it.

Volker, I think math user wants automatic students course planning, something like in the US high-schools (the mapr version, see http://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/forum/index.php?topic=1633.0 ). It is very difficult to derive such a version from the official FET. I hope math user could use this mapr version.
