Modify the no of split activities of an existing activity

Suppose, if I have an activity (duration 3 periods) which is split into 3 split activities. At a later stage, if I want to split into 2 activities (2+1), is there any way to do it other than deleting the activity and creating again? Just wanted to know

a) you can modify the weight of the min day constraint down to 0% and add a consecutive or grouped constraint to 2 activities.

b) Use Livius trick (see below)

Sorry, no other way. It is difficult to take care of the activities ids if you go from split say 4 to split 5 (so increasing). Because the id of 5th component might be taken by the next activity. So I need to put the components after the last activity. So I chose not to be able to change the split. But you can deactivate a component, in your case.
