I am using FET for the first time and am putting in the initial data. I have found my first major problem. My school runs optional subjects for the final two years of study. For instance in Year 11 (our final year) students have chosen either Art, Geography or Film in one block, Spanish or Drama in another block and so on...

It looked like I could use the option to split year groups to achieve this in my timetable, however when I split Y11, it split all the other year groups in the same way. In our school, different year groups are given option blocks according to their choices which are not the same for every year group and some are not split at all and all do the same lessons at the same time.

Is there a way to set this up on FET? We also block our Maths and Science lessons together and this looks hard to do with FET too. Thank you in advance...

Year: Y11
Select the option: Divide year by selecting categories
Divisions/Categories:3

1st Category:
1A
1G
1F

2nd Catergory:
2S
2D

3rd category:
3M
3S

*note: alphabets represent the first letter of the subject name

That's it... Only Y11 will be divided if you select that.....

edit: Almost everything is possible with FET

I did this for Y11 then when I selected Y7, it was showing the same divisions as for Y11. I then removed them from Y7 and guess what? They were also removed from Y11! They seem to be linked together somehow...

Just to clarify, I did Students --> Years (forms, classes) --> Year 11 --> Divide Year by selecting categories --> Split year dialog  and then added my splits

These splits were then applied to all year groups, when I change one, it changes all of them.

Thank you for your help so far by the way...

Correction: It does this in the dialog box but groups added correctly in the "groups" area. Thank you!

The same structure is "shown" when you click "divide years", it is up to you to use the same structure or modify it for other year.

Yes, as Nagendra said, the Divide year by categories will retain the last input, not the real structure of the year. Sorry for this "feature/bug"!  :-[

To make activities start at the same time you have a constraint activities same starting time (day+hour) if you know the exact order or you can also use constraint activities occupy max time slots from selection if you don't know the activities' order.
