Hi,

I am looking for correct implementation for centralized exam schedule where some activities share big a hall.

I know that i can create representative rooms for this big room but how to also satisfy that these "dummy" rooms created for the big room will not exceed the total capacity of the real room ?

I noticed this "mapr" version of the FET. But it is not fully clear to me how to use it ?

Thanks in advance !

Best

Hello,

Please don't use FET-MAPR. It is old, bad, useless. FET in the Block planning mode is a replacement, but I don't know if you need it.

Maybe use the constraint activities max simultaneous in selected time slots. In this way, in a slot you will be able to specify the maximum number of activities.

Maybe other tricks are possible, I am not sure a perfect solution is possible with the official FET.

If you are interested, I could try to develop a customization for you, as a contract work. This will be research work, I am not sure it is possible. In this case, please let me know.

Ok, thanks for the offer.

I will group these activities such that total capacity of each group will not exceed the big room capacity and set constraint to have same starting time slot. I will create dummy rooms and assign to each activitiy within a group.

From each group, i will also select one activitiy and set constraint to not overlap with one another from each groups.

so this will ensure that the big room will not exceed total capacity and all other groups will not try to occupy this big room at the same time.

It would be very nice to have FET buil these groups everytime it generates the schedule but anyhow.

thanks again for the offer.

You are welcome! I hope you will succeed.

I will add a part of your initial post in the TODO. Thank you for the suggestion!

About final exams. It depend a bit on the needs. But if your exams just need a table to write then it might be easy. At my school it is every very easy, since it is also always the same subject at the same time. So we just use all rooms in a quite floor (so a floor away from the play ground) and just wit on the door "Students with name A... to Ca..", "Students with name Cb... to Es...", ... since all students write the same exams at the same time. Very easy to plan without a computer.
I know other school with different subjects at the same time, But there it is also easy to plan without a computer. As long as all students write exactly at the same time and only need a table and a chair, then planning is very easy just with pen and paper. In this case they just write on the door "Biology", "Chemistry with Name A...to G...", ...
We enter the planning results into the substitution planning software TiTiTo. So that can be done manually in just a minute.
Only if the students have the exams at different times (for example because the exam is not with pen and paper, since each single student has an oral examination, then you can do it that way. But in that case it is on the other side easy with FET again, since there is always just a single student per room.
