I am a very beginner at using this timetable preparing software, and I need assistance in resolving an issue I am encountering. Here is a brief overview of my setup:

- **Total Days:** Monday to Friday
- **Batches of Students:** 14
- **Periods in a Day:** 7
- **Timetable Details:**
  - 5 periods for the first language
  - 4 periods for the second language
  - 4 core subjects, with 6 periods each

Despite my efforts, I am facing a challenge where the same subject appears consecutively for the same class, which becomes monotonous for the students. Initially, I assigned 6 activities for the subjects, but one or two subjects appeared consecutively. I then tried with 5 activities and added one more, but the same problem persisted.

Could you please provide guidance on how to configure the software to prevent subjects from being scheduled consecutively?

Thank you for your support.

I think you need to add activity core subject: A1(A1_1+A1_2+A1_3+A1_4+A1_5) - 100% min 1 days between, and A2(A2_1), and then min 1 gaps between A1_1, A1_2, A1_3, A1_4, A1_5, A2_1.

Or add A1(1,2,3,4,5) and A2(6), and add an activity tag AT to all 6 of them, and use students activity tag max 1 hours continuously.

Hello! I don't know why you wrote a duplicate post (see your identical first post above, from ~1 year ago). I answered it, did you see?

Dear Liviu,

At the outset, thank you very much for this wonderful software.

I have generated timetables, but my teachers and have asked that consecutive slots be avoided as the children are finding it difficult to stay focussed.

I have 7 slots a day and 5 days a week timetable. I have issues with 3 core subjects that have (Arabic 8, English 7 & Math 6) slots per week.

Can you tell me which constraint I should use such that the same subjects are not grouped together. Max I can have 2 slots per day of the same subject, but not together.

I am using Version: 7.2.6

Felix

Dear Felix,

Thank you for the appreciation!

For instance for Arabic, I think:

1) If you need to have each day an Arabic lesson: add an activity split into 5 (durations 1+1+1+1+1, 100% min 1 days between them), and one split into 3 (1+1+1, 100% min 1 days between them), and then min gaps 1 between activities, all 8 (sub)activities, or add a tag for each component of these 8 and then students min 1 gaps between activity tag.

2) If you allow for instance only 4 days with Arabic, each with 2 noncontinuous lessons: add an activity split into 8, 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1, min 1 days between them, but with weight 0%, and consecutive = false. FET in this case won't place 3 hours on the same day. Then, as above, so that the subactivities are not consecutive.

or, for the same situation as at (2),

3) Add 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1, don't add min days between them (select 0 when adding the split activity), same as above so that the subactivities are not consecutive, and add a tag and then students max 2 hours daily with this tag.

(2) might be more efficient than (3).

Liviu.

Dear Liviu,

Thank You very much for the prompt response.

Shall try it out and revert.

Dear Liviu,

Tried out Option 2 and it has worked perfectly fine.

@Mohandas .... you may try the same too.

Thank you very much once again Liviu..

You are welcome, Felix! I am glad it works for you! :)

Note that by FET design, if you have more (sub)activities in a constraint min days between activities, FET won't place more than 2 (sub)activities on the same day (I am not sure I made this clear).
