Split students one way for one subject, another way for another subject

In my school, we have a schedule where some students go to EAL, some students go to the normal English class.

For another subject (let's call it math, although it's not actually), some students go to remedial math, some students go to the mainstream math.

Is it possible to split students into groups only for certain subjects?  Or what is the best way to set this up?

Edit:
I want to add a little clarification:

In some cases (for example, with English), EAL is combined (G1 and G2 EAL are combined into one subject), but G1 English and G2 English are separate subjects (so G1 English, G2 English, and G1-G2 EAL will be at the same time, with different teachers).

It is very easy, say year Y1, divide automatically by 2 categories, each with 2 divisions: (EAL, NE) and (RM, MM). You'll have 2x2=4 subgroups, and 2+2=4 groups. Use the groups in the activities.

Thanks so much, I'll give it a try.
