Hi, I'm new here and I need help.

I have groups formed by 90 students, and they arrange in different activities that might divide them in 2 groups of 45 students, or 3 groups of 30 students. So I obviously created subgroups A and B (45 students each) and X, Y and Z (30 students each).

My problem is when the schedule is arranged, and the system makes one schedule for each subgroup independently so I have activities at the same time for the same group of 90 students (like classes for subgroup A, B and X at the same time). How do I make it arrange the activities by group and not subgroup?

Thanks in advance

You must do it like this:
Add a year.
Then Press "Divide year by selecting categories" in the years dialog.
Increase the Division/Categories value up to 2.
Select the tab with the division number "1".
Add division name "A".
Add division name "B".

Select the tab with division number "2".
Add division name "X".
Add division name "Y".
Add division name "Z".
Press "ok".

Now FET will automaticly do the subgroups correct.

You only need to use the group names A,B,X,Y and Z.
You don't need to use the subgroup names.

FET will automaticaly care about the groups now.
So FET can place "A" and "B" at the same time,
Or it can place "X" and "Y" at the same time,
but FET will never place "A" and "X" at the same time.

>In this campus I have several carreer paths,
>an each carreer paths have different years,

As long as they don't share activities with other years, that doesn't matter at all. If there are shared activities, then we must have a closer look.

> each year having several mandatory academic activities.
> Those activities arrange in groups of 45, 30 and even 15
> (I left that out last time to simplify the question).

So it look like you need 3 Division/Categories. (Last time there were only 2)

> Also, each carreer path have different sizes in terms of total number of students,
> students per year, and students by time of the day
> (we have students during the day and others in the evening)

hmm.. maybe i missunderstood, but i can't see a problem here

> [...] For instance, I would have a code group name like this:
> "Carreer ID-Time of de day ID-Cohort Number-Package ID",

hmm.. not sure. I fear only a single Package number is "incorrect" since in fact you need 3 different package numbers. Depending on group size of 45, 30 and 15.

So maybe the package number has 3 digits. The first digit is the package number of group size 25, the second digit is the group number of group size 30 and the last digit is the group number of group size 15.

>For that carreer, in day time, in that cohort,
> I would have aproximately 210 students divided by 3 packages
> (100, 200 and 300), made of 90, 90 and 30 students each.

i fear i don't understand this part. Why not 70, 70 and 70?

Please rethink about my previous suggestion.

It this is not possible, then there is maybe also an other variant:
Call the groups like you want.
Enter the student names as subgroup name.

Because in that case I would need 6 professors and 6 classrooms instead of 5... 4 professors will have a full classroom and one teacher will have a half full classroom. If I do packages of 70 students, then I would have 6 half full classrooms, and the premiss is that I need to reduce the number of physical classrooms for next term, due to infrestructure remodelation and space constrains.

ah. ok. I see.

No problem. You can still do it by spliting the years automaticly. But it might be good to add the number of students manualy in that case to case about the correct room size. So you can still divide the year by FET automaticaly and then go into FET->Data->students->groups
Select the group name and press "modify". Then you can modify the number of students.

Volker Dirr

upp... sorry. i just saw that i modified you old message.

Don't worry :)

So I should add divisions by activity group size, like you first suggested, and then add groups by carreer paths?

Volker Dirr

I think so. I recommend to try it with a single year first and enter all activities of that single year. If it work fine, continue similar with the other years.
If it doesn't work fine, please report and let us think one more time how to make it better.
