General Stuff / Active activity?
July 05, 2019, 09:34:30 AM
Could someone explain what is an "active" activity? And how is the "inactive" activity option used?
#2
This sounds very useful for my requirement, but I'd some questions:
1. How do we restrict the preferred timings of teachers (FET days). For example, teacher A and B both can teach activity X, which is taught 5 times a week and can be scheduled on Monday 1st, Tuesday 2nd, Wednesday 4th, Thursday 6th and Friday 7th. Teacher A prefers morning classes and teacher B prefers afternoon classes. How will the teachers' preferences be included?

2. To continue with the previous example, how to restrict the preferred slots for the activity itself?

Pls advise. Thank you very much.

Get Help / Locking the timetable

I am unable to understand how to use the locked timetable. Is it possible to lock a teacher's timetable? In what ways can locking help the solving process?

Oh, I see. Thanks a lot!

Get Help / activity planning: how to interpret numbers
December 17, 2018, 12:55:32 PM
Hello
In the activity planning interface, some teachers have 0(+9) or 0(-1) mentioned. I understand that a 0 means that all target hours have been allotted. But what does the number in bracket mean? Not all teachers have this. Screenshot is attached.

Could you show how to use the "rooms" hack to implement this?

This would actually be a useful feature to have.

I see, thanks.

Is it possible that the software places less number of activities after some constraints are relaxed/removed/deactivated?
I would expect that relaxing or ignoring constraints should allow more flexibility and hence easier placement of activities. Does the opposite indicate a bug in my data?

Thanks a lot! Will try this out.

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion!
The norms are the other way around: the teacher with 14 hours can have two hours on two days (but preferably one day), and the teacher with 16 hours can have it *at most* one day.

Do I change the file in the "styles" folder for this?

We have a Teacher A with 14 hours weekly and one Teacher B with 16 hours weekly. Both are required to come on 5 days a week and can have maximum 5 hours daily and minimum 2 hours daily. However, the 2 hours should occur only on one day for Teacher B and maximum two days for Teacher A. How can I modify your trick for this requirement?

For Teacher A, do I create 2 pseudo activities with split 5 each, min days 1; one p.activity with split 3 and one p.activity with split 1? Similarly for Teacher B? Would this lead to too many gaps?

I used FET for the first time this semester for my department timetable consisting of 20 teachers, 6 classes and a thousand rules :D
It was a fun learning experience and I almost got addicted to experimenting with the constraints and running iterations! I really appreciate the quick responses on the forum. FET truly has been a life saver!! Thanks and kudos! Really, Volker and Liviu, you are doing a great service to the teaching profession with your product, that too without an expectation of monetary gain. You are an inspiration :)
