Praise and Feedback / FET, so powerful
November 05, 2009, 02:47:10 AM
I've been appointed as Deputy Headmaster but the Headmaster left and I've been on my own in a new job...
I had never done a timetable in my life, FET saved me!
FET is simply great, I use it to produce a timetable in .csv that I transfer (VBA) in Excel (I'd preferd to use Open Office but I am not that far) but I also use .csv files with subjects to produce grade reports (again with Excel and VBA)
FET is very powerful!
I'd like to make a donation but my boss is stingy and my salary is in Thai bahts, not in EUROS...

Suggestions / Re: IE & FireFox

Hello,
I don't know if this is the problem you have...
I noticed that there was a problem with printing a document, there were no page breaks, so I added the following line at the beginning of each table:
<p style="page-break-before: always">
Am I wrong doing so?

Get Help / Re: Rooms not being calculated in timetable
November 06, 2009, 01:29:59 AM
Thank you, I was looking for an unexisting problem. Actually I tought the constraint applied to the total activity and not to each sub activity (total duration 2, 2 "sub" activities of duration 1 which can be separately managed).
Your program is amazing...
Thank you again

Hello, not really the same problem but related to rooms so I post the question here.
We have only one room with LCD projector and one computer lab. Would the teachers always use the rooms I would use the constraint "an activity has a prefered room", but this is not the case. Let's take one example: the social studies teacher teaches each grades two periods a week, how can I assign the room constraint to one of this periods? In other words: one period in the classroom and one period in the LCD room.
I could have said Biology, three periods, one in the dedicated LCD room... This to avoid "conflicts" between teachers who would like to use this room at the same time.
Thanks
;)

No the first answer was the right one. I put too many hours due to a wrong information given by one of the teachers.
In the meantime I could simulate a good timetable and I must say this program is great, powerful!
I hope to have some time available to explain step by step how I achieved it.

I don't know if the reason is to be looked up here... I created an activity for the whole grade 10 as the English class is divided into three groups Low Medium and High.
Three teachers teaching at the same time...
Or (see the other picture) because Humanities students have English Literature (2 groups) and optional Chinese or French, so I put these activities at the  Grade 10 Humanities level and not at the the subgroups level.

After having assigned the activities to the rooms I was eager to see some results and tried a first simulation...
The outcome was quite disturbing. I got a message saying that the total of activities exceeded the available hours so 38 for 34 hours available...
I checked the activities and found 25 hours for the mentioned group.

Do we have to assign all the sub activities as well?
I mean, when we define an activity Maths for instance the total 5 hours might be divided into 4 periods, 3 times 1 hour and one period of two consecutive hours. The program indent those sub activities. Do we have to assign the classroom 4 times ?

QuoteFor second picture: the "Filter" thing will show you the constraints which satisfy this filter. If you want to add a new constraint, you have to select them in the add constraint dialog (filter is one thing, add constraint dialog is another thing).

For first picture: yes, it is a wrong translation. Could you please tell me how to write "subject preferred room"? Is it "salle preferee pour la matiere"? Please write me with correct accents.

Yes that's right Salle préférée pour la matière
When this all will be over I'll send you some additional translations
by the way save isn't sauver but enregistrer. save as should be enregistrer sous
Many many thanks for your support

I tried to match activities and classrooms which seems to work. What is the best way, assign a subject or all activities of this subject?
How do I get simultaneous activities ? For example I made an activity English with three teachers as the class will be divide into three groups regarding their level low medium and high. I might have a problem with the basic teacher constraint...?
I am sorry to ask those question, but I'm a little bit in a hurry and new in that school without Headmaster...
and working at weekends as you can see

Get Help / assign rooms
May 17, 2008, 10:14:18 AM
I read the topic about the split activities and the generation of rooms
So I tried to assign an activity to a room, but in the dialog box no consistent activity appears. For instance, if I select a Teacher I expect to see the activities where he's involved in, but this is not the case. Also, when I try to assign a subject to a room there is a problem I do not know, maybe due to the translation, if I assign a subject to the preferred room or assign the preferred subject for the room as written (does this make sense?)
