Suggestions / Re: New Keyboard Shortcuts in FET
August 29, 2025, 11:06:18 AM
Thank you very much for adding Ctrl+H to the TODO list, I really appreciate it!
I understand that the Delete key may be more complicated.

I'd also like to suggest some additional shortcuts for quickly showing the horizontal timetables:

Ctrl+Shift+T → Teachers' timetables (days as rows)

Ctrl+Shift+S → Students' timetables (days as rows)

Ctrl+Shift+R → Rooms' timetables (days as rows)

These would make it much faster to switch between the different horizontal views.

Technical Suggestion for Implementing Delete (Supp) Key

Hello Mr. Liviu,

I was thinking about a possible way to make the Delete (Supp) key easier to implement in FET.

Maybe it could be handled in the following way:

1. When the user presses the Delete key, FET first checks if any item is currently selected (activity, teacher, student, constraint, etc.).

2. If something is selected, FET shows a small confirmation dialog like: "Do you really want to delete this item?"

This step would prevent accidental deletions.

3. If the user confirms, FET then calls the same function that is used when clicking the "Remove" button in the interface.

This way, the Delete key would just act as a shortcut to trigger the existing remove function, without changing the underlying logic.

Do you think this approach could make the implementation simpler?

Thank you very much, Mr. Liviu, for considering my suggestion and for adding it to the TODO list.
I completely understand that this feature may be complicated to implement.

Even if it cannot be added soon, I really appreciate your attention and the continuous effort you put into improving FET. It already helps us a lot in our schools, and every new update makes the work even easier.

Hi everyone,

I'd like to suggest a new feature in FET: the ability to define some activities as optional.

Here's how I imagine it could work:

First, we run the normal generation for all compulsory activities.

After that, there could be a button or option to "Add Optional Activities".

FET would then try to place these optional activities into the existing timetable, depending on the availability of teachers, students, and classrooms.

The duration of an optional activity could be flexible, for example: it might fit as 1 hour or 2 hours, depending on what FET can find.

These optional activities could be scheduled even if they create gaps in teachers' or students' timetables.

A stop condition could be set: for example, FET stops adding optional activities once it has successfully placed a specified number of them.

If no space is found, optional activities would simply remain unscheduled without affecting the main timetable.

This way, schools could handle enrichment or extra lessons more flexibly, without compromising the core timetable.

What do you think about this idea?

Suggestions / Export Timetables to Excel (XLSX)
August 29, 2025, 05:02:17 AM
Hi all,

First of all, thanks for the amazing tool!

Right now, we can export timetables as HTML or PDF, which is great.
I think it would be even more powerful if we also had the option to export directly to Excel (XLSX) format.

That way, schools could easily make small manual adjustments or apply custom formatting in Excel after generating the timetable with FET.

Would this be possible in the future?

Cheers,

Hi everyone,

I have a small idea that could be very useful while working with FET.

When we start a single generation, it would be nice to have a button inside that window which allows us to switch directly to multiple generation — without losing the first single generation result.

This way, if we begin with a quick single generation and later decide to continue testing multiple generations, we won't need to restart the process from scratch.

I think this could save time and make the workflow smoother.

What do you think?

Suggestions / New Keyboard Shortcuts in FET
August 29, 2025, 04:52:46 AM
Hello,

First, thank you for the great work on FET. The software is very useful and efficient.

Currently, we have the Ctrl+G shortcut for generating an individual timetable, which is very convenient.
I would like to suggest adding two more shortcuts:

Ctrl+H → for generating multiple timetables

Delete (Supp) key → for deleting selected items

These shortcuts would make the workflow faster and more user-friendly.

Thank you for considering this improvement.

Best regards,
