Automatic renaming of student subgroups

Hi!

I recently had to rename the student years, groups and subgroups. When renaming a year, all the student groups of that year were automatically renamed as well (e.g. changing "BIN17" to "BIN18" renamed the group "BIN17A" to "BIN18A"). However, the subgroups haven't been renamed, even though it would've been possible due to the naming convention scheme I used. For instance "BIN17A" had the subgroups "GRP-17A" and "GRP-17B". By changing "BIN17A" to "BIN18A", also the subgroups could've been renamed "GRP-18A" and "GRP-18B".

Is there any reason why there's no automatic renaming for subgroups?

Hello,

The subgroups (and groups) need to begin with the exact name of the year. If a subgroup is named "BIN17A1" it will be renamed to "BIN18A1". It is a preferred behavior, in my opinion. And FET gives an explanation in the dialog.

Ah ok, I didn't notice that. Unfortunately, renaming the subgroups is not an option for me.
But wouldn't it make sense to modify that behaviour, at least optinally? If I change "18" to "19" in a group name, and this group has subgroups also with "18" their names, why shouldn't I want to have them renamed as well?

It was just an idea. It's perfectly ok for me if you refuse it. You clearly have a broader view on the consequences that such a modification would have.

It is risky and difficult to decide on the correct renaming in your understanding.

I definitely cannot make this in the official FET, at least for now.

But if you would be interested, I could try a customization for you. And if the custom version works well, maybe in the future I will reconsider for the official.
