Just found this recent paper about FET:

I am excited that the paper talks appreciative about FET.

Indeed! And they used FET-6.9.5 - I just hope they will like the present FET even more. The interface is much better, but there are also many new constraints, suggested by our important collaborators/FET users.

I think the "old" version is normal in such a paper.
FET 6.9.5 is from 11 August 2023. So they tested FET well in that year and compared it with their previous workflow. That need of course some time. Then you start writing such a paper; also needs some time. If i understood exact, then at least 5 guys wrote this paper. Then it will be probably checked by their professors. Then they sent such a paper to a company that publish papers like that. They also read and check it and then they need to wait for the next release (it is "only" a paper in a book with a lot of other papers.). So it is  "normal" that this can take more then 1 year time until readers can see the results.
