Hello there

I have just started using FET and I am doing something wrong. I would be grateful for any guidance offered.

I am designing a new timetable for a 2 week course involving 400+ medical students. The students are subdivided into 45 groups of 8. They rotate around various activities over the 2 weeks with a maximum of 6 groups doing any one activity at any time.

When I generate the timetable, I find that all 45 groups are doing the same activity at the same time. I have tried various conditions but I can't seem to get the activities to cascade across the week so that students are in rotation.

My guess is that I am missing something key and I am hoping that this is a simple fix.

My thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello,

If I understand correctly, you might need to use tricks or a custom FET version.

In the official FET without tricks, each activity has a known teacher (or more), subject, and students set (or more), and it places it in a time slot.

If you want to allocate activities with students set(s) and subject -> to teacher(s) and time slots, you might need to use the official FET with tricks, or FET-BP, or other custom version (see https://lalescu.ro/liviu/fet/custom.html). I would say FET-BP.

You have the constraint activities max simultaneous in selected time slots, to set max 6 activities in a time slot.
