My question seems very simple compared to others I have read here. I'm new to FET so maybe someone with more experience can help me. We host a quarterly training week at our company and I'm trying to find an easy way to set this up. Here's a summary of what I have.

Total of 20 Courses with a combined duration of 87. Some course are 1 hour long while others are 4 or up to 8 hours long.

Five rooms can be used for these courses. Courses do not have to be in a certain room. Any course can be taught in any room.

Classes are taught 4 days of the week.

When I create a timetable based off of these criteria I get an error warning message that says "... the number of hours for subgroup is 87 and you only have 4 days x 11 hours in a week".

It seems that what I've done is only used 1 room instead of a combination of the 5. I'm not sure where to make this change so that all rooms are used in the scheduling.

Thanks.

I see two disjoint problems in your data:

1) The error you are getting is not related to rooms. Each subgroup can have at a certain time slot (day d, hour h, you have 4x11=44 slots per week) a single activity. I think you need to reconsider the students structure for your case. Let me know if you need further advice on how to correct this.

2) To constrain each activity in any room: the easiest way would be to add a certain activity tag to each activity, and a constraint activity tag preferred rooms.

Please let me know.

thanks for the feedback. Since I'm new to this software, I don't fully understand what it is you suggested I do. Are there any files I could send you from within FET that might help. Maybe someone could point out what changes need to be made.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, please attach your .fet file, if it is not private.

Regarding point 1), I should see your file. But the idea is that you must divide your students accordingly, and each subgroup (or lowest set, might be a group or a year, depending on your choice) should have at most 44 hours of activities per week (see students statistics). Maybe you need to define overlapping groups. Maybe you could use the option "Divide year automatically".

Regarding point 2), you can add an activity tag "Any_Room" or similar, then space constraints -> an activity tag has a set of preferred rooms.

I sent it to you outside of this forum.

Thanks.
