I am new to FET so I apologise in advance for my lack of knowledge. How do I block for instance two Maths classes at the same time? (If in year 7 there are two classes 7A and 7B but for maths they form two different groups 7H and 7S). Thanks for your time.

I am glad you solved it without external help :-)

Now I have another problem and I am going to try and solve it but if anyone can help in the meantime I'd be grateful.

I think I have the wrong idea about years, groups and subgroups. For instance Year 7 contains two tutor groups A and B and they are taught some subjects in these groups, sometimes they are split according to what language they study French/German/Chinese also they are grouped differently as Standard and Higher for maths.

I have set up classes 7A 7B 7S 7H 7F 7G 7C. I suspect this is wrong as maths and french might get timetabled at the same time and this can't happen the groups needs to be  7A 7B or  7S 7H or 7F 7G 7C.

Thanks for your time.

Yes, this is wrong. You need to divide the year 7 automatically by 3 categories: (A, B), (F, G, C) and (S, H). Then see what groups and subgroups the program added.

Thanks, I have got that now, but I do need more than 4 catagories...

So I think I understand how to set up another year group and then add more categories, is this still the best way?

You can:

1) Group languages into a single activity. Create subject "Language" and add more teachers to that activity (the F, G and C teachers) and the whole year 7. This is one category less.

or

2) Try to see if you can generate in an acceptable time with more than 4 categories. I did not carry many tests in this matter.

I thought if I used categories these would be timetabled simultaneously, thats not happening, any ideas?

FET gives complete liberty for the timetable. If you don't specify something, then that 'something' isn't implied. You need to add more constraints activities same starting time.
