Hi all,

I was frustrated trying to timetable manually, I thought I would try this out. But I'm having trouble finding out how to set it up so my subjects are only 2 or 3 consecutive days.
Would anybody be able to help?
I have attached where I got up to timetabling with excel, I would like to have the workshop allocations the same as well, how would this be possible?

Thanks

Simon

Hello,

I think you need to use constraints max days between activities.

I am sorry, but I do not have experience with this kind of data. I hope others will help you on the forum.

In FET the most important thing is the list of activities. You can import the data from CSV (comma separated files), but the format is different.

Would you be able to show an example screenshot Liviu, where this is and what I should enter to ha e 2 or 3 consecutive days?
Thanks

i am not sure if i understood your whole question and dataset.

but if i understood correct you have got for example subject WS with 3 or 4 hours.

If you have got subject WS 3 hours per week you should add an WS activity splitted into 2 parts. one with duration 2 and one with duration 1. reduce weight down to 0% and add this activity.
Than you need to add a max days between that 2 (sub)-activities constraints with weigh 100% and max day=1.
OR
dont split that activity. just set duration=3. No need to add other constraints.

If you have got got subject WS 4 hours per week you should add an WS activity splitted into 2 parts. both duration 2. (maybe) increase weight up to 100% and add this activity.
Tahn you need to add a max days between that 2 (sub)-activities constraints with weigh 100% and max day=1.

You need to go to time constraints (activities time constraints), max days between activities, select all the activities which should be on 2 or 3 consecutive days, and set max days = 1 (for 2 consecutive days) or 2 (for 3 consecutive days).

You need first to add activities. An activity is a tuple (subject, teachers, students sets, activity tags).

I will try to show you some screenshots if these explanations are not enough.

OK, thanks I'll give it a try first.

I'm completely lost I'm afraid.
So I am trying to timetable for Carpentry lessons, the groups are in college for 2 days a week for 4 sessions in a day, CR =Classroom activity and WS = Workshop activity referring to my excel, but then typically they have to do English and Maths which is what the GCSE and FS labels are on the groups timetables on my excel.
I would need the timetabler to take into account of these lessons to timetable around these slots.
Would it be able to do this?
I think I need a step by step, on how to do all of this I have another 2 lots of timetables to do after this one :(
I have removed some things from my excel to make it clearer.

All I can say is that you could define a set of teachers, students sets, subjects, and maybe activity tags. And add activities. Then generate the timetable.

The students sets are organized in years, groups, and subgroups. We can talk about this some more, if needed. If your structure is simple: independent students sets, you can add them as students years.

The activities might be split into 2 subactivities per week, each subactivity will have duration 4 (probably).

I am sorry that I cannot read/understand better your file. I hope others might answer better.

I know that understanding FET might be difficult. But you need to allocate some time for this.
