Get Help / Re: Managing gaps
Last post by Jack_Pk - August 22, 2026, 11:46:23 AM
Thanks for the clarification and for the suggestions.
I think that, for my particular case, the combination of the "regular" activity tag and one dummy activity per teacher is more flexible than imposing a minimum of one gap per day.
By applying the maximum 4 hours per day constraint only to activities tagged as "regular", the dummy does not count as an actual teaching hour. At the same time, with maximum 1 gap per day, the dummy can act as a sort of wildcard: if necessary, FET can place it inside a second gap, effectively allowing that teacher to have two real gaps on one day. If it is not needed, FET can simply place it at the beginning or at the end of the teacher's working day, where it effectively disappears.
This is useful in my school because we do not want teachers to have at least one gap every day. Quite the opposite: if FET can give a teacher several days with no gaps at all, teachers are usually very happy with that, even if the price is having two gaps on one particularly difficult day.
So, for example, a distribution such as 0 + 0 + 0 + 1 + 2 is preferable to 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2.
For this reason, the single-dummy solution seems to fit our needs very well while still leaving FET as much freedom as possible.
Thanks again for the explanations and for the interesting discussion!

Yes, it's an idea.

Maybe like this: an option, on/off (default off, I prefer, but I am not sure), "Show teacher's availability in constraints". All "teacher" constraints.

This should include also the teacher's mornings/afternoons behavior.

Would it be possible to make this feature optional, with an option to enable or disable it in the Settings, similar to the existing option for enabling/disabling the display of warnings?

I understand. Indeed, it is easy to display the teacher not available information just in the dialogs of type teacher home room(s).

But I am not content with showing the teacher's availability here - it is a different information, belonging to other section.

Let me think about it!

Thank you for your quick response.

Actually, what we would like is to check the teacher's availability when monitoring the preferred rooms constraints for a teacher—that is, when clicking on the constraints associated with the same room.

Regarding the HTML human-readable export, would it be possible to simply exclude this part of the constraint from the export?

Hi Wallawt.  Very nice app.  Please can I confirm point 7.  My understanding is that you shouldn't be able to move a whole year session to a slot occupied by a group of that same year, however I'm finding that I can.  Am I missing a setting?  Thanks, Kieron.

What a fantastic solution!!! I didn't know this feature could work like that. I just need to add a pseudo-room to these support activities, and everything will be fine. Thank you so much, Vangelis, for your help!!

Hello.

If I understand your problem correctly, you need to utilize pseudo-activities (i.e. activities with no students group) for teacher WalczG.
So, in addition to the real activities of this teacher, add a pseudo-activity with:
Teacher = WalczG
Subject = 4A_support
Split = 20
Consecutive -> deactivate (you don't need the elements of the pseudo-activity to be consecutive)
Min days = 0.
Then, you need to use the constraint "a set of activities occupies max time slots from selection".
Add all the activities of class 4A and the above pseudo-activity of teacher WalczG.
Time slots -> select all time slots
Weight = 100%
Max occupied = the total duration of all the activities of class 4A (I think it's 32).
This constraint is going to force all the 20 elements of the pseudo-activity to be placed on the same time slots with any 20 of the 32 activities of class 4A.
Please inform me if this approach solves your problem.

Vangelis.
